ZAM recomends you use Trillian 5.0 (Currently at Beta but works superb), you can check out the software at www.trillian.im and setup instructions are here

If your using trillian, a small % of users need to tell their firewall to enable use of trillian, that is if your seeing messages but yours never seem to get out of your box.

I'll have to get mine setup and try it out. I just went to the Rift IRC chat with Steve Chamberlin and Peter Ju on RIFT IRC. Was pretty cool having them Q&A.
