I have been playing on and off for a couple of weeks. I thought I would try fishing today and when I sent to Louviaune to purchase fishing supplies, neither the beginning rod or rig were available, but she had plenty of other stuff I could buy. Any idea why she didn't have the rod in stock?
With help of my sister I finally figured it out. So much for guides online being updated as who to talk too. :)

It is true that the weathered rod can not be bought by the vendors stated on this (and many other sites). After patch 1.19 you will have to talk to Unsynwilf at the fisher guild in Limsa Lominsa.
If you are referring to this fishing guide I am sorry. I have had a lot of work since the 1.19 update but I finally got around to getting it up to date. Good luck with fishing.

I just wanted to add that there should be an NPC in each of the 3 cities with the starting gear for each class. The NPC for weathered fishing rods happens to be Tataroga in Uldah. If you look up weathered fishing rod under database=>items=>tools=>fisher click on weathered fishing pole and you can see the 3 NPCs in each of the starting cities. This also goes for all weathered gear.

Just to make it clear. On this site Louvianune is listed under weathered fishing rod as the vendor in Limsa Lominsa but she no longer sell this item. The items for some vendors have been updated and while Humphrey in Gridania and Tataroga in Ul'Dah still sell them she does not. As she is the one in the fishing guild most people would probably go here and be confused as she doesn't have it. You will need to talk to Unsynwilf instead. He is very close so no biggie but you need to know.
