So I just started playing, and started about two days ago. I have been on Puglist killing mobs, teaming up with people and getting help. I saw gear was so expensive and felt overwhelmed because the fact is I do not want to waste my Gil I earned.

Now I was never interested in Crafts and HELM in ffxi, but in this game it seems interesting. I realized I did not want to start crafting right away, but one in particular interested me. Miner, I want to be a miner for now, but how would I go about activating it? I have no weapon for the job, and no clothes to go with the job either, just in my regular lalafell gear. Leve's are up in three hours also, I am waiting on them to see what I can do, there is a level 1 battlecraft I did not finish, and it gives an item, I just want to see if it is related to Miner in anyway.

I just want a little personal advice for someone new, and getting used to the game, about mining, and what to do. I am on pug right now, but I can not mine lol, have not switched jobs yet.

if you're in Ul'dah then head to the mining guild to purchase a weathered pickaxe. if you cant make it there then check the NPC crafting class vendors. you'll find one there.

hold on to at least one weapon/tool per class so you can switch on the fly.

macros help with that.

Yeah macro's help with that right? I just realized that. Ctrl and Alt. Can you tell me what you put on them? because there is about 5 sets on each, and each job does not seem to have it's own. what would you put in the regular ctrl and alt besides switching on the fly?

Oh and how would said macro's look since this is ffXVI and not XI?

What do you usually put in ctrl and alt?

Miner is a good choice if you are looking to earn a little extra gil, make sure you get the two free retainers so you can store stuff and sell in the wards. You only need to change your primary weapon to change jobs.

If you take mining seriously to higher ranks you will benefit from specialised gear for mining. gear with output, gathering and perception will help as well as stats on VIT and MND. Have a good read through this forum for more info.

Good luck

As for macros you have 5 sets for each "alt" and "ctrl" By either holding "alt" or "ctrl" and hitting up or down you can cycle through these.

I have a macro setup for main & secondary tools as well as class specific abilities for miner. eg.

/equip main "Tool Name"
/equip sub "Tool Name"
/eaction 1 "Sharp Vision"

Next macro set contains location finding abilities. eg.

/eaction 2 "Lay of the Land II"
/eaction 3 "Lay of the Land III"
/eaction 4 "Prospect II"
/eaction 5 "Prospect III"

Last macro setup is for gear. eg.

/equip head "Item"
/equip body "Item"
/equip hands "Item"
/equip legs "Item"
/equip feet "Item"
/equip waist "Item"

I keep these separate because I usually focus on mining but occasionally pass by a logging point that I want to hit real quick, and vice-versa.
