Last Names (Surnames)Follow

Hi SE,

I believe it would be beneficial for you consider removing last names. Unless I'm out of touch with the rest of the playerbase, to me it seems like the two name system is an unnecessary nuisance that hinders communication. The benefits are outweighed by the negative aspects.

I personally have a hard time remembering names when they consist of more than 8 characters. Looking at everyone in town, all the names turn into a blur looking something like Fhgrehg Hiuthe, Djytymn Joiuf, Klenoobab Hlooenfsaz, Cgfek Nkuegdss, Andeeklk Unnahaden, etc. Then there's the difficulty of reproducing their names in /tell when you want to communicate.

If the rest of the FFXIV community generally feels the same way I do regarding the names, is there any future plan to make the two name system more worthwhile? If not, the removal of last names could help foster more communication between players significantly and make the game easier to play.

Please disregard the removal of the two names, my characters name is "Slim Shady" and "Slim" just does not work for what I was going for on it.

Put people that you like on your friends list. It isn't as much of a social commitment as it was in FFXI, but it's a good way to keep track of people.

an option to "hide" the surname would be nice tho, but completely low-priority, imho

Dont make us lose our names again. There are already plenty of duplicate first names running around. Atleast now we can have the name we like, as well as a surname we like (unless you were a total idiot and put in something stupid).

i LOVE having both a first name and a Sur name. It is the single best things this game has done in it's entire lifespan. No more of this "That name already exists" bullsh*t, or when eventual merges take place, getting screwed out of your name as what happened on XI over and over again.

Too late for that, obviously.
