I look forward to the implimentation of usable gear in FFXIV. One of my favorite things about the older titles which seems more scarce these days, was using a peice of gear as an item in battle. Particularly, I am thinking of using the Fire Wand as an item to cast Fire (with like a 30 second cooldown) or a Cure Staff to cast Cure.

SE - please impliment usable gear into FFXIV. Long cool down timers should be reserved only for the most powerful uses (one week Meteo Wand cooldown.) For the most part, cooldowns should be quick (30 seconds), allowing for use every couple of actions. Also, please keep the uses diverse. How about a sheild that casts Protect, or the Spike Plate Mail that casts Shock Spikes. Make things interesting too; a pair of specticals that acts similar to 'Scan' or 'Peek.'

Charges are ok (Cast Cure 999/999), but not on everything. I would like to see both Charged and Unlimited Use versions of the same items - perhaps dropping from NMs or found in Treasure Chests. Also, remeber to keep this gear use hard limited by attributes, such as a combination of Level, Rank, Stat points, and Element points.

this would be cool.

The game needs more items - a lot of "equally cool" items.

I would say the 1 caveat with usable items like this should be that if you remove the item (like the gear that casts protect on you) that the effect immediately ends - so that people wouldn't just use the items like potions

Actually, that's the idea; these items sit in your inventory and you use them like an item to cast spells, rather than equip them to your character. Like the various elemental swords in FFIV that would cast a spell when used like an item during battle.

Well then I wouldn't agree with it... if it is armor that casts protect you should have to wear it to get the effect... if it is a sword that casts fire you should need to be (continuously) weilding the sword, etc.

If you just want to cast protect on yourself then buy some ironhide potions.

What you are suggesting would just kill the market for consumables... and as an Alchemist I wouldn't really like that... lol

You're forgetting that as an alchemist, it will be you who is crafting many of these items.
