Hello all!
Fernehalwes here.

Now that we’ve finished tidying up after Yoshi-P’s little smash session with the Hammer of the Gods, I can finally bring you some screenshots from the new and improved Beta version.

As many of you may recall from the Alpha version walkthroughs released last month, we had yet to introduce the passing of time, so all the footage you saw took place in the day.

Our programmers, however, have been busy working behind the scenes, readying the realm for nightfall...and here’s an exclusive first look!

The Knot in Old Gridania:

Screenshot

The moon in her different phases:

Ah, but will facing north-by-northeast at 2:45 a.m. while the moon is a waning crescent result in a 27% increase in your chances to synthesize HQ mythril ingots!? That is real the question!

Fernehalwes

The world is starting to show some signs of the attention to detail I was hoping for.

Never confuse your inference as the listener for an implication of the speaker.

Good games are subjective like good food is subjective. You're not going to seriously tell me that there's not a psychological basis for why pizza is great and lutefisk is revolting. The thing about subjectivity is that, as subjects go, humans actually have a great deal in common.

Two types of attitudes...the "why would we do that?" and "Is there a reason not to do that?".

Its really starting to look like Yoshi is going with #2 with RR.

Pretty damn cool IMO. It all comes down to will there be enough of us who care.

Tis shiny.

Now if only there were enough player-made or game-made events that took real advantage of such glorious moonlit nights.

Gorgeous. I was wondering why it was broad daylight in the alpha videos.

This DX11 engine is kicking ass and taking names.

Yeah I really wanna run through the cities at night now.

One thing I loved about 1.0 is seeing the glow of lights in windows in Limsa Lominsa from a distance. This looks even better than I hoped.

Hey, I like to think I'm pretty lenient. Most OOT talk usually gets killed on other forums, of course once ARR launches I'll probably have to police that more but we don't have a ton to talk about as is.

For a certain dedicated group of the playerbase it will, lol. Smiley: rolleyes

As for the screenshots, it's wonderful that they brought moonphase back, and also that day/night looks nice. Now, if the sky isn't just copy-pasted star clusters, I'll be really excited! It's this kind of detail that makes the game world seem more alive, and I hope they don't stop here, but build on this momentum to truly impress everyone.

I would love to see moving clouds. That's probably asking too much, but in those stills you can see clouds and I think that would be awesome.

You don't get it. He's trying to deceive us into believing the direction for HQ ingots is NNE, when every dedicated crafter by now knows this only raises luck with logs.

LOL! Given Yoshi's sense of humor there may very well be a series of crafting quests for each job that require you face a certain direction during the moon phase.

I will second that sentiment! It's little nuances like that which make the game constantly fresh and exciting! I love the rumors, etc etc... It always leaves a sense of wonder and excitement in the game.

On the website, in the original blog post, the word "That" is bold. I think the real question is not if facing a precious direction, at a specific time, on a specific moon phase, with a specific weather condition, that occurs once a RL year, that lasts for a very limited time, will yield a HQ +99 item but instead, why did he make that statement and bold the "That?"

As if he is saying that in fact facing a precious direction, at a specific time, on a specific moon phase, with a specific weather condition, that occurs once a RL year, that lasts for a very limited time, will yield a HQ +99 item.
