There was a final save on Nov 1 and all character data was transferred over to the new servers. You will not be able to transfer that character to any of the "fresh servers" for some time, but you will be able to create a new character on said servers.

EDIT: here's a link with some more info.

Name and levels. Your level 11 character will be the same level 11 character on release.

If I had to redo two years of work on my levels and gear and drops I've obtained, I wouldn't play anymore. Maybe if they didn't charge me for that time, I wouldn't have the same sentiment... but yeah.

Your character will be level 11 upon release of ARR.

Unless you were a master craftsmen and only leveled to 11... I would make a new character on a new, fresh, "beginner's server." One that all new members will go and those that have played but want to start over or whatever.

I Have to much after 6months of playing to go to a new server, even if everyone around me has all jobs at 50+. I have a few 30s and a 50. That was a lot of work, so Ill stick around.

But at lvl 11, unless you were crafting, I would just make a new person.

i'm tempted to do the same, despite of and also because of the fact that I leveled my two fave jobs (drg, mnk) to cap already. But the dormant RPer in me likes the idea of my avatar surviving the apocalypse and carrying on. Plus, I've already decided to become an uber crafter, since crafting is now kind of awesome imo (based purely on the crafting vid ofc). I figure i'll level a mage job and/or bard to experience the quest/storyline content.

The hope is there will be far more people starting from level 1 than there are those who are already at 50, or the game is in a lot of trouble. Smiley: eek

Speaking of which, they will have "Fresh Start" servers where everyone must start from level 1 and no character transfers will be allowed, so you'll have nothing to fear if you start from one of those.

I'm not sure why everyone wouldn't start from scratch. Now, I'm not suggesting that people just ditch their capped characters, but there is going to be a lot more that is new to someone starting or starting over at level 1 than there will be for someone who is capped.

Other than people not liking the battle system, this is my biggest concern for ARR... will there be enough added to the game that it won't just be a copy paste of 1.0 onto better servers with more functional UI and control scheme.

I don't think I'll start over from scratch, unless I'm not allowed to modify my character's appearance. I never capped any jobs in 1.0 (only made it to 42 THM before I ran out of time) . Characters who "survived" are all supposed to get the "Mark of Dalamud" whatever that is. I did finish a good chunk of the main scenario (missed the last mission) and the Grand Company quests, so I have my goobbue and my chocobo and I'd rather not give those up.

If someone has all jobs capped at 50, though.... Yeah. I can see making at least a secondary character from level 1 to start all over again as a newbie.

Why, though?

I mean, if you're talking new players, of course. The final sub base wasn't anything good.

If you mean from a "people to play with" level, though, the beauty of FF online is multiple jobs, 1 character. I'll be starting the game fresh as Arcanist, but hell no am I giving up all of me level 50's and gear.

At some point we will be able to transfer over (us high levels...). I for one saved a few jobs that I wanted to level down at level 15 so I could have fun doing it in the new game. I got my Magics up to ~30, LNC to 38, and ARC to 50. The Dragoon can have fun in the high levels, the magic can go through the grind in parties, and the low levels are pretty much fresh meat.

I left it that way so I could play with my high level companions but still feel like a noob with my low level jobs. Only problem will be when EVERYONE is higher and wont come play with me... solo grind >.<

I will say however, the draw of a new server with a bunch of noobs does sound kinda fun.

I'll be leveling Arcanist and going through the new leveling up quests and things like that with the new people.

I'm glad it's a hybrid tank and debuffer class. I'll get to enjoy the game with friends who start on the PS3 anyhow.

I still haven't decided which class I am going to start off with. I usually start with the THF style jobs, but it doesn't really seem like there is one here. /sadface

It will be just like FFXI when new jobs are added. "Hey guys.. do we need a 4th Dancer?"

Me as well. I left PLD low because I wanted to play it and Pug low because.. I hate it. I'll probably make a second character on a fresh server just to help new players and experience the chaos. I do hope players don't only join the fresh servers. I may be "legacy" but I hate the breed of players in my legacy pool... If you thought the "I've been playing FFXI since beta" crowd was bad....

this.. yo know an MMO based on final fantasy sucks when they cant even have all the CLASSIC FF jobs available at launch

that would be like making a new warcraft or WoW game and having every race but orcs at launch

Too many melee jobs already would be my guess. So they added arcanist/summoner instead of, say, thief. Offline RPGs don't always translate that well. But yeah....i can't think of a single MMO that doesn't have a rogue/thief class, so that is kind of a big WTF, especially considering their "appeal to the mmo masses" direction. Not to mention their "appeal to the FF fans" approach.

My other guess is that they aren't sure how to implement it. Should it be a class or a job? THF(class)>>> NIN(job) makes sense, but then career THFs would be disappointed, and I wouldn't blame them. Unless this time around, classes are more relevant. I can't see how they would be, aside from soloing (just like in 1.23)

Then: should it break from FF tradition and have the kind of perma-stealth that we see in most mmo rogue classes? Imo, it should not. But it could have a short stealth (3 seconds, possibly with a movement speed boost), both as a de-aggro option, as well as for a gap-closer in pvp. Maybe a perma-stealth that breaks on any movement.

And ofc, Sneak Attack/Trick Attack would be good to see again. And the ubiquitous TH.(maybe tone down the focus on that this time around to avoid the TH-whore mentality, as well as the "need THF or wasting our time" mentality. Or maybe TH is just an outdated mechanic altogether.)

I'm sure there are others like me who were somewhat interested before first release but were turned off by all the bad reviews who are getting interested once again.
