Just a short question. Prolly been answered before, or not :P

Is it to late to start paying and receive Legacy status at release ? We are now in august, and according to roadmap its October?

Im deff gonna play ver 2.0 but not that excited about entering now ( again ) if not getting legacy status :P

You won't be excited. The deadline for Legacy was end-of-May.

If you wanted legacy status you would have been playing and paying since January, where you were guaranteed to get it.

Well, in that case they didn't succeed; in my case, I had 5000 crysta left in my account that would have gone bad by october anyway, so I quickly grabbed legacy although I quit like, a year ago. Never logged in once in the meantiome. That's what smart guys do. Leave the fanboys paying for an unfinished beta, until I will gloriously ride into 2.0 with exactly the same legacy chocobo. Life is unfair.

But hey. You'll be able to tell your grandchildren that you vailantly stuck to a game everybody laughed about. That must be worth something.

Well as my support to SE, I would say I've payed my 2 cents in my 8 years FFXI and 1,5 year of FFXIV. But rules are rules. I choosed not to pay until ver 2.0. Therefore I stopped when they started chargin. And my yougest son got born 1 month after so no game time anyways. But thats just excuses, I know. But still the little Taru(yes i like the name taru better then Lallafell) inside me wants to experience some FFXIV b4 ver 2.0... If my RL firend wanna join up again now. You will c me ingame again. How long I will last, I cannot promise.

Do some leveling unlock some jobs hmmmm... The world of ffxiv is calling :O

Well Legacy or not, I reactivated my account today :) Can't wait for ver 2.0 And I will enjoy the last days of FFXIV as we know it now. Prolly get som levels on the jobs I havent gotten to 50 yet.

Another question , all our Dated gear will disapear in ver 2.0 ? If so I gotta replace em asap, if I member correctly I still wear some on my PUG. :O We can check after work today, acount is waiting for me at home :)

No one is forcing anyone to sub right now. If you feel its not worth it then don't, its simple as that. Aside from the lack of direction for newbies in the start of the game, I do not feel its terrible. I am sure you remember that FFXIV was F2P for a long time while they fixed it enough so you could play it. It just blows my mind to see the never ending sense of entitlement from a lot of people on these forums. Makes me feel like I am in high school all over again.

I pre-ordered FFXIV CE before 1.0 was released and I was really upset with what I paid for. Eventually I got over it and accepted the offer of playing the game for free for a long time, numerous patches to fix the game and a whole new version given to me (for free). What else could you want? Oh did I mention Legacy benefits? Jeez c'mon guys lets grow up.

I am starting over as well to play with the same people your accusing me of implying that I am better then them.

Just tired of seeing people try to manipulate the system. Don't you think we have enough of that already?

It has nothing to do with a stuck up legacy attitude but more of people not understanding why they created the legacy program. Why would buying the game and paying the standard subscription like everyone else create less of a player base? That makes absolutely no sense.

You paid for it. It wasn't worth what you paid for it when you bought it, it wasn't really worth playing even when it was 'free'(even though you paid for it) and whether or not it's worth playing now is arguable. Judging by the population before the rush to get Legacy status, the vast majority thought it wasn't. People keep stressing the fact that there was no sub fee like that's some sort of meaningful excuse. It was like that because it sucked

Most companies do it this way. You subscribe for a certain amount up front and get a discount. It makes sense so I'm not certain why SE didn't(yet) go this route, especially when you consider that they haven't really proven their worth. If XIV was in good shape it would be a different story, but locking players into the game before it's reborn just seems like a cashgrab. People should be expected to try and get over on a company who seems to be trying to do the same thing.

First month is free. I would imagine that would be enough to decide if it was something you wanted to invest in. TERA did something similar where you got your first month free, but had two months to decide if you wanted to pay in advance. I think they had 3 month, 6 month and annual price packages where the price went down the longer you subbed for.

Something like this would have made more sense. Just give everyone who bought XIV and started a service account prior to 2.0 the bonus of Legacy status.

Short answer: Bandwagon Syndrome.

It would probably be more obvious if you were more active on these boards, but basically there are a lot of fans here who feel like you are less of a fan because you weren't there to support SE through the tough times. It's kinda like people who like a band and then when the band gets popular they have some resentment toward more recent fans because they weren't around from day one.

I really don't get it because in the end these are the people who you're going to be spending time with in game. Like you said, it was your choice... they don't realize that they chose to endure the hardship and now they feel entitled to something special. I don't really disagree but honestly, if I were one of the few who stuck it out, I'd just be happy to have SE offering something to entice people to stick around more than a month or two like the first go 'round.

The lack of Legacy option for new players probably won't chase anyone away, but allowing new players this option would almost certainly encourage more people to play.

A lot of people on both sides are quite wrong about Legacy. It is a limited time offer, which is like almost every other digital sales nowadays, MMO or just pure digital sales. RIFT had Founder club for instance, then you got Steam sales for another example and even EA (who talked big about no big discount because it lower value of the industry, only to have massive sale few weeks later...). It is neither "weeding out" players nor it is "unfair", it's common practice. Also there are indeed bulk discount separately from legacy, for example the 90 - 180 days (that saved somewhere like 10-15%) previously before they took them down due to 1.0 closing down soon. In 2.0 they probably have 1 year sub with better discount too. And despite Massive Steam sales being very profitable, they only have it like 3 times a year (Summer, Halloween and Christmas), they wouldn't do it every single day because someone ask them so, nor would it help them in the long run like some people here would believe.

I googled Gobbue Quest, got the lodestone page saying can only be obtained before ver 2.00 release. I walk out to find the npc... Nope nothing.. I get frustrated, look everywhere on the right coordinates, nothing. I c another player I ask where he is, he replies he is gone now. And tells me he disapeared after last patch... frack me sideways, I open lodestone patch updates. And voila there it was saying going away after latest patch.

Well well , we can't always get what we want. lol :D

I've been reading that over about the "start" of beta. I think the one nagging issue is that if they stop collecting subscriptions prior to that so it cuts off late attempts to qualify. What if the multiple alpha tests delay the official kickoff of the official notification of the start of the beta test by a month or two, that really doesn't matter since they stopped collecting subscriptions at the start of November.

I started in April. They then announced the Legacy and regardless if I play this for the long run i decided that the benefit would be worth me paying for 3 months, even if I didn't play the whole time. Since I was going to come close to the deadline, free month ended in May, June, July, Aug (end of it) I decided that I didn't want to take the chance so I got the 90day sub. I did that in June and got the Legacy Sticker in a few days. So as Cloudcroft said:

I hope they give a discount price for mass subs fir new members and people that didn't get legacy, it would help out SE and FFXIV tremendously.

You sign up for a monthly basis. Provided beta doesn't start in October, I personally will have paid for three consecutive months at that point. I don't think this neccesarily means we need to have paid for a 90 day sub. Simply subbed for 90 consecutive days.

SE is counting Oct for certain. I signed up Jul 6 to start paying, figuring I had already missed out on Legacy status. When I logged in tonight, I had the Legacy Icon on the character select screen. I also checked my account page and it shows I was awarded Legacy status this billing cycle. Next payment due shows Oct 6.

That was a nice "Oh, nice little bonus I didn't expect." of them.

And if no one comes to play 2.0 because they think they're going to have to put up with this attitude, then your "investment" would have been for nothing but a chocobo you can't ride because the game shut down.

Seriously... what was the point in saving a game you're going to doom by chasing away all the new players the game needs to survive? It's like you saved an orphanage that was about to close down and then burned it down because you don't want any f^&king orphans to move in.

Here's the kicker: People like you and me have probably given more to SE than a typical Legacy player has.

Think about it. I spent $90 on a pre-ordered CE. If you weren't in the States, you paid at least that much if not much more (they were like $120-130 in Australia?).

That's more than what 3 Legacy players on Buddy Passes combined would have had to have spent.

But, I don't get a fancy bird with an "SE Loves Me More" bumper sticker (that's alright I don't really want one). What's more, I think I have a level head about welcoming new players because the game is definitely dead without them.

And yet, I'm faced with being called an undeserving n00b for not getting the Legacy "gold star" even though I've probably contributed more to keeping FF14 alive monetarily than half the Legacy players out there. And I know I'm not the only one in this boat. So it's not only the new players that the game needs to survive that are getting trashed by this, but also the players who've actually put down more money than those discount subscribers ever did through their initial purchase.

That said, there's nothing wrong with discount subscribers having a good time. I just don't think anyone deserves to be put down over when and how much they've paid for the game. I'm just pointing this out because the idea that Legacy players have all contributed more than anyone else is demonstrably false, and it's ultimately meaningless if you just want to chase people out of the game (which is starving for players) with it.

The bottom line is, everything has to come together for FFXIV to work. The game has to be great, but the players have to be welcoming too, because without new blood, it's all over. To those of you who have it, have fun with your Legacy status, but don't expect me to suck you off because of it.
