Its been almost 4 years since Ive done a major overhaul to my PC. Currently I have
Asus P6T deluxe 1366 mobo
i7 920 not D0
6gb corsair dominator 1600 mhz
300gb velociraptor drive
GTX 570(picked up last year)
My main goal is to play ffxiv flawlessly without a hiccup (I know a little bold of a statement)
Ive been looking at getting either a 3770k or 3550k with a z77 board
8gb ram probably corsair blue.
Smaller SSD maybe 128gb and use my previous drive as a storage.
While I was at it sell my 570 before the 660ti(prob lower the 570 price) comes out and pick up the 670 ftw.
My question is what should I do CPU/MOBO wise. My 920 has lived strong but I feel as the GPU are getting up there I may start running into a bottle neck. The 920 D0 stepping is not very good at Overclocking so currently Im at a 2.66ghz speed.
Any Advice would be greatly appreciated!
Would that build furture proof me for ffxiv and the upcoming MMO's?

Until they actually fix the graphics engine, there's no such thing as flawless play. No one knows how the new engine will play so no one will be able to give you any advice based on anything concrete.
Come back after it's launched and people have an idea how it plays.

The i7 920 is not a bottleneck if you give it a bit of an overclock
My old i7 920 did 3.8Ghz no problem. Just because it isnt a D0 doesnt make it rubbish at overclocking you could just go slightly higher. D0 tops out around 4.2-3Ghz on air and 4Ghz is no problem. The older revision manages around 3.6-3.8Ghz.
That is still very quick and no where near any sort of bottleneck problems.
SSD is a good idea though as that will help dramatically with FFXIV and loading up characters etc although it wont increase FPS. i recommend the samsung 256GB 830 as its very fast and cheap for an SSD.
honestly your system is fine and you wont benefit massively from an upgrade to to a 3770K in terms of gaming FPS if you overclock your i7,
however if you run other CPU intensive applications such as handbrake then it could be worth it.
I guess you would also get the benefit of a 6Gbps SATA controller as well (marvell one such on X58)

I upgraded my graphics card which in turn forced me to upgrade my PSU... now I need to do the processor.. and adding up the cost of all this certainly isnt cheap.

I tend to do this once a year and for a specific reason. Many people have a hobby which they spend thier extra money on. My father in law for example loves to jeep, and everytime he does it he come back fixing something significantly more then I would fathom spending. In my case I usually buy a video card use it for a year then sell it to get the new tech. I bought my gtx 570 a year ago for 280 dollars and just sold it for 200, so in essence it was a 80 dollar rental for the year. If I didnt buy a video card for 3-4 years I would still be spending roughly the same amount but lacking the improved performance year to year.
I am not a very good overclocker and even after reasearch I am unsure. Its one of those thing where I lack the confidence in not blowing something up. There is something about tweakign the QPI voltage that I am unsure about.
I am def. gonna move forward with the SSD as this WD Velociraptor is prob due for a replacement.

If you didn't have anything else to upgrade I'd say go for it. SSD shows very little if any noticeable difference in XIV. You're still upgrading a PC for a game that is getting downgraded soon.
Regardless of what your hobby is, you should enjoy the same hobby we all participate in... saving money.

Are they really downgrading the graphics engine that much? I did read they were scaling it down a little but also giving the opportunity for high resolution.
How much of a downgrade are we talking? I have been unable to find accurate %'s or performance

wanting to play this game flawlessly is something your unfortunatley going to have to push out of your head. for whatever reason, this game refuses to be played flawlessly on any machine. some people say bad coding, some people blame the video card makers for not making better drivers. in any case, your not going to be maxing out everything the game has to offer.
what i recomend you do, is to build your PC around a game known for pushing your PC to the limit. when i built mine the got-to game for that was crisis. i dont know what it is now, possibly still crisis that game was a beast, but it would be easy to find using a google search.
although i can run crisis flawlessly with a 30" 2560x1600 monitor at around 90-100 FPS, FF14 just doesn't want to play nice. (this does depend on what parts you build wth, some peoples pc's run it better than others for some reason). Also, crossfire doesn't on my PC for this game only so if you want to go that route i recomend not buying 2 unless you have other games to play.
hopefully 2.0 is made better to avoid all of this, because it's the only game i have played i can't max everything, and i have better quality games in terms of graphics.

You won't be able to find it until the version is released. This is the reason why the best bet is to wait until that happens to upgrade or build...
