Hi guys!

I fully expected to find a bunch of "What's new?" threads when I got here but I see none ;; I want to try out FFXIV again with the Welcome Back campaign and I'm interested to know the Cliff's Notes on the changes. I tried to read old patch notes but..... they had lots of words in them..

I stopped playing just after Chocobos were added and I was fairly involved in Endgame Dungeon runs, though I didn't do much with materia and Ifrit.

^^ Thanks for the checklist!

I tried out the first iteration of defense missions, with the supply cart defense thing. I had lots of fun PRE-patch so I'm anticipating good things here.

I picked up the game in December 2010 and quit in early February 2011 with moderate peek'ins on patch days. I honestly wasn't impressed up to 1.19, but... we'll see later this week.

Now I know it's written on the lodestone and what not...but do you not think they would of sent out mass e-mails by now? Maybe it ended up in my junk mail, but I typically receive things from SE...about 2 months AFTER the event has happened. If you've stopped following this game, you have NO idea this happening. Has anyone received anything at all?

I thought it came in the email that linked to the Legacy Campaign?

Last e-mail I got from them was about the server transfer. Are you currently an active player?

Yes, I was under the assumption the legacy thingy went to all previous players because it was in my spambox unlike other SE emails.

Since there's no (buzz) or fanfare i think this will last longer than the 20th. Ten days is kind of short to come back and try it when you have a game the frowns on budget video cards.

I don't think I will qualify for the return, since I only played the beta version... but I am going to join up now anyway. I have had a few friends playing since the launch and they have been talking about all the changes. While I know a lot of the major underlying issues won't get resolved until 2.0, I am going to join up and get my feet wet... the best way to appreciate a big change is to see what it was like before.

Hopefully SE will do well with this trial period and bring back a bit of a following. I think they are on the right track :)

Someday soon my friends, this ride will come to and end, and we can't just get in line again.

There's a bit of buzz. At least IGN and Massively posted stories about it, though I wish SE had an actual marketing strategy.

But I'm doing my part, don't worry:

So... it's the 9th and my account is still inactive. Are they doing this after the patch today or...?

I was looking for something too but couldn't. I would get your grand company Chocobo, it took me an afternoon. I think they are faster then the ones you rent plus you can call them from anywhere, makes traveling alot easier.

Right now I am just exploring and trying to get everything all figured out.
Leveling up since even though I started at launch I never was really motivated to level up before now. I still get that excited feeling whenever I learn or am about to learn a new skill.

It's always good to see them e-mailing the people that are already paying...forget the people you want to bring back who can potentially pay.

I don't understand why they haven't emailed about this. It's weird. Don't they want people to participate?

oh that's neat. I just bought minecraft yesterday. I've drowned, punched a cactus, gotten eaten, fallen off a cliff and hid in a lot of holes so far.

Just to throw something out there about this. It says on the lodestone page http://lodestone.finalfantasyxiv.com/pl/campaign/campaign.html#welcome

"If you previously cancelled your FFXIV service account, then you’ll need to reactivate it (and no charges will apply). Once you reactivate your service account, you will not need to reactivate your characters to participate in this campaign."

I wonder if they will start charging you if you don't deactivate by the 20th. I know they have some funky payment options that you have to set up, but I'm not fully familiar with that. I suppose we'll know more in a few hours. I'm surprised they didn't send out an email or something announcing this. Maybe they don't want a flood of people coming in by only getting the people that have been paying attention to the games progress.

Considering their infrastructure messes everytime something happens with the billing system, I think I may just hold off on this because I don't want to be charged.

Just to clarify.

I didn't cancel my service account, just my character. Do I just need to wait for the time to roll around for the free time to start? Or do I need to reactivate my character.

This made me lol. I'm not certain why they wouldn't want a flood of people coming back.

I suppose not with the recent redistribution, but if everyone who is eligible to return is getting an email then their mailing is approximately 10 times larger than their current subscriber base. I'd think they would expect a lot of those people to login at some point.
