Seriously though, I've only seen this happening in really crappy EXP parties where the first guy "has to go eat dinner" after the first pull and the rest of the party suddenly announces "great pt guys, but my cat needs ironing and I think my socks are hungry".

Best cure: Stop forming PUG's, go with 80% friends who actually know what they are doing and doesn't blame every eruption to the face on "latency" or "SE SUCKS".

People should plan accordingly, if you want to do end-game, wait for end-game, or start one. If you plan on playing in a group play in a group. If you got to go, you got to go but did someone drop the courtesy of finding a replacement or something?

Yeah, you did. The handbook was issued alongside the numerous other "advancements" of newer MMORPGs, such as cross-server auto-grouping.

I do agree, the auto-party feature really does cater to that. And 14 has suffered a lot with the LFP not working for so long that people have just gotten used to either not using it to look for a party, or to look for a replacement. One nice thing new blood in the game will do is bring in people who are not as broken as the game... One could hope... If new people could join...:).

I don't join parties... I make them.
I have lead every group i have ever been in.

What really stumps me is how people will yell in chat for Ifrit then...
When I ask they LIE and say they know the fight...
then they spend the filling time NOT watching a single youtube video or reading ANYTHING about it.

Then I ask if everyone is ready... and they lie again.
Then they watch the whole cut scene...

Then they wipe in the most embarrassing way possible
And it's always 1 really horrible person and one other one who just needs a little advice.

Then i tell them to wipe it and they kite it all over the fu#%ing place oblivious to my leadership.
Then one person leaves... The Light Party sign comes up... and like clockwork everyone jumps off the cliff... *groan*

And once again i find myself feeling Déjà vu... as I trudge my chocobo all the way back to Uld...
All the while trying to muster up the hope that the next group will have one less imbecile.

I try to limit random people and avoid pick-up parties for stuff like that. Ifrit, Moogle, and the dungeons can get royally frustrating if you get one of these "random parties". I find pick-up parties lack a lot what is needed to complete these tasks. Some people don't like to listen, pretend like they know what they are doing, flat out suck, try to come undergeared...the list goes on. I'm like you dude, I make like 90% of the parties I'm in but you can only do so much. Even if you are experienced and try to play the leadership role, some people are tough to deal with in many ways. A solid LS or 2 fixes that problem and fills at least a majority or all spots. I rarely shout for random people and if I have to it's to fill the last couple spots. I tried CC and AV in a pick-up party and it was an utter disaster lol. I mean you may luck out and get a good one but nothing beats some good, experienced, smart LS buddies.

"Chain leaving"? Yeah that sucks. How about building a CC party for about an hr, take 30mins to get to Princess, whipe terribly because the bard won't listen and get the Guard, people get frustrated and "chain leave". Fun times, fun times.
