Read the notes and still don't understand, I play FFXI so I don't know the job system of FFXIV. I'm thinking about playing and want to know a little about the job system. I'm upset I don't see darknight in the joblist you think there going to add it? Just curious?
It's a really confusing system. There's 7 basic classes. Each of the those 7 classes can mix and match any abilities from any other class
This is confusing for party play. To reduce this, they've given each of those 7 classes an optional specialization ("job"). This is essentially a coating of paint that makes your original class stronger and gives them more abilities. Now, each of those 7 classes are each better at what they were originally good at, and (as a sacrifice, and to make things even less confusing) they can only use abilities from 2 other classes. You get better at a specific thing, but get reduced functionality.
If you're a Marauder, you can basically choose to level as either a typical Marauder or Warrior. Both of these share the exact same level.
-Marauder can access abilities gained from your other 6 classes
-Warrior can access abilities to only 2 other specific classes, but also gains job specific abilities
They didn't remove the old system because they didn't need to. This system was made to fix problems with the old system, not as an alternative. I think, as more classes get released, alongside the class-specific armor planned, that people will eventually flock back to the previous class system. I believe they will add many jobs in the future, and I assume that each of the jobs would have a class to level alongside it. Dark Knight is planned, and they even mentioned a story-line event that would permanently remove the ability for your character to access the Paladin job in sacrifice for it. I assume this is because Paladin would share the same spot on top of your Gladiator class.
