Hi People
After spending some time this weekend levelling Marauder and Squig Herder from 1-7ish as some fun with my family, I had a few thoughts.

The first thing I noticed was that my server (Darklands) which does not really suffer from low population, does have almost noboody at the low level zones.
Now I know that they have made some changes to one PQ in each zone and they are making changes to allow for lower levels of people iin zones. My topic isn't really about the changes.

I suppose my idea is to have servers that when you roll a new character toon, you automatically start on. Maybe there is more than one. But anyway once you reach 10 or 20 you have a choice to move on out. I know this affects Guilds and friends. But when I was those low 1-15 levels personally I wasn;t doing those things with a guild or my friends.
It was all about numbers for me back then.

I am not suggesting implementation methods or anything like that, just wondering what people think of the idea. Dedicated starting servers.

Love it... hate it? Discuss. Its helpful if you have encountered this issue of ghost towns in the starting areas.

Hello Solmeir,

I have come across your "ghost towns" in other MMO's that I have played and it is more than just aggravating to have to do it all by yourself. I like your idea of the dedicated servers for people to start on, however I could never see it happening. The most popular thing to do when you come across this issue is to venture to another area, example: Dark Elf ---> Chaos. Check out the other areas to start off in and see if you can find more people. On my server, the majority of people are starting in Chaos but ATM are at Dark Elf b/c of new careers. All in all, just try the other 2 areas for starting out if you cannot find someone to play with. Don't forget about Region chat (/1) either, sometimes people un-filter their chat just to get together and do stuff. In any case I hope this has helped a little and enjoy!

My server is fairly populated. There's an addon called Census that basically just collects data on characters in each zone online (like you can manually).

After a week of data gathering, rank 40 characters are literally 10x as frequent as any other level range. Most people are just at the top level and doing RvR and raid activities (city dungeon, BS, etc).

Try going to the DE start, there are more people there playing the new class.

THanks for the replies. I already have a higher level main, so the thread was more about the idea of dedicated servers to ensure there is sufficient people volume to play.

But thanks for the thoughts.

Actually your idea is probably the easiest fix to the eventual lack of players on all servers under level 40.

The new character server (just one core --you want Open rules you transfer off) would allow you to transfer off to any other server at rank 22+.

Xp/renown bonus would always be in effect.

Level cap of 39 in place... you want rank 40 and higher renown get in the "real" game.

Many RVR features would need to be disabled... perhaps unflippable keeps?

Arguably this server should also rotate the racial pairings on a monthly basis... so you only play in one at a time. This maximizes players per zone.
