Hello all, I'm returning again (for the 5th time I think?) and I had a question that I haven't seen addressed in any "returning players" stickies. Background info: I used to play on PS2 and had a security token so I never worried much about account security. Now I will be playing on a PC and I no longer have a security token (lost and deactivated).
My question: I remember a few years back when I last played (2008 or 2009) I used to frequent a certain website to view maps of FFXI zones. I really liked going to the site because the maps were very helpful. I remember hearing that that site was suspected of giving people spyware (keyloggers to be specific) for account information to be stolen. Since I played on PS2 I never really paid much attention to what was being said or the eventual verdict on whether the site was the source of the spyware. What I am wondering is whether or not there are any sites that I should avoid now that security is a much more pressing concern for me than it was as a PS2 player.
Bonus Question: (This is addressed in the stickies, but any extra info is helpful because I really don't know much on the topic at all...) Since I am kind of a n00b when it comes to computers in general, what are the most important things I should be doing to keep my account safe? I never worried about it on PS2. I honestly didn't know you could get a keylogger just by going to a website. I have a free virus scan and my internet access comes through a router which I believe gives me a firewall. Like I said, I really don't know much about computers...
Thank you for the replies and Sorry in advance for my ignorance.
