Heya

I've been thinking about getting into FFXI again, and bringing my fiance with me.
I used to pay for my account using a "MyTitanium MasterCard" from Moneymart, but have since abandoned the card due to fee's everywhere.

Now, I'm looking into Crysta and finding that there is A LOT more options to pay for the game, than ever before.
That being said, I want to use my TD bank debit card to pay for FFXI, without using PayPal.

The PlaySpan website has on their front page, that they take Interac (Canadian form of debit online).
If I go to the UltimateGame Card section and buy the $21 game card directly online, using my Interac debit card, will Square-Enix be able to see the "UltimatePoints" I will have bought, and I can use it for buying Crysta?

If yes, this will save me all the hassle of trying to get a Secured by Visa card or 3D Secure by Mastercard.

Yes, you can use ultimate points to buy crysta. It's under Add crysta > ultimatepay, and that pops up a window with choices, it's under the "5 other choices" tab. You input the gaming card data there I think. Or log in to your PlaySpan account. I dunno.

But before you buy the gaming card, check what other options there are in those tabs. For me it offers local e-banking (Finland) in addition to buying crysta with credit card, those gaming points, moneybookers, paypal etc. You might be able to use your Interac card directly.

the first time you go to add a code, it should prompt you for an email addy to link to a playspan account. After that, when ever you go to add Crysta via UGC code it should poll the playspan account and give you the option to apply any UP in the account before you get to the code entry screen.

It works out well if you actually visit the site often. You can do the surveys and such for the bonus UP, buy your UGC codes or cards locally and apply the UP you've earned. Last time I added, I got like $2 worth of free crysta or something from the UP on the Playspan account--and I was using a code from a physical UGC card from a local Gamestop store.

If you can, I recommend that you use Pay Pal. Of the various options for payment, Pay Pal provides the best foreign exchange rate for Canadian dollars - pretty much the going FX. The other options must have exchange service fees embedded. Even when the Canadian dollar was trading above the US dollar, they would have had you pay more CAD than US. Only Pay Pal had charges that reflected the actual daily rate.

I use Pay Pal and pay my Pay Pal with a Mastercard that does not have 3D secure.

alternatively, you may be able to buy UGC cards locally as well. Not sure just how many outlets they have selling them in Canada though. You can look them up at their website:
http://ultimategamecard.playspan.com/ugcstores/ca

You will need to manually zoom the map in to see the actual pins. For some reason, that GIS app isn't zooming into to the locations properly, even when you punch in a valid postal code.

Just wanted to pop in and say thanks for all the help!

I'm playing again and all I did was use my TD debit card :) (No VISA or Mastercard logo)
What I did was log into my Square-Enix account, and added 2000 Crysta, it then redirected me to payment options. Sadly, there is no direct Interact option on Square-Enix' account management, but like I said, there is an option for Interact for UltimatePoints. So I went to the PlaySpan marketplace, put a $21 UltimateGame Card in my cart and was able to pay directly using my debit card. This in turn allowed me to pay for FFXI using Crysta/UltimatePoints using debit!

I haven't been able to do this since FFXI first came out, so it's REALLY a great way to pay, and best possible way for me to get back into the game, which, now I am!

Thanks again for all the help and replies :)

oh that's so cool - I didn't know you could buy with interact, I might have to try it. Waiting for paypal to clear is bogus.
