I was farming for my rdm feet in abyssea-attowa for 5+ hours, with 255 azure 255 amber 255 pearl light, and i have not seen any empyrean armour in the big gold chest.

i am using rdm/dnc , my target is the rock murex.

does TH affect the drop rate?

does the empyrean armour shown up when u peek the chest content or do u have to open the chest in order to see it?

The feet will appear in the chest regardless of whether you just peek in it or actually open the chest, but your problem is that you've capped out your amber. It's generally accepted that you want to get your amber as high as you can without letting it get high enough to give you consistent big gold chests, as the feet appear more often in the small gold chests. As for capping your azure, that's up to you, since while that much azure guarantees that all the chests will be at their maximum potency, you're also lowering your overall chance of seeing gold chests by capping it out.

Treasure Hunter does not affect what appears in the gold chests whatsoever.

TH doesn't affect the chest drops in any way, for that matter.

It only affects what ends up in the treasure pool directly from mob kills, and even then not in 100% of cases.

TH does, however, have a known effect on seal and +2 item drops drops, so if you are unable to have a full set of procs in a farming group, its a good idea to bring along some THF to ensure each round isn't a total waste.

If you're just killing one mob at a time, I concur.

The only time I've seen a lot of feet show up with capped amber was when we were whiskering mobs. The ratio of gold chests with items to gold chests with temp items/KIs/augmented items might still have been low. But if you get tons of chests, you still wind up with a lot of normal item chests.

Main thing that seemed to enhance the drop rate wasn't really affecting the drop rate, but chest spawn rate. Check the state of the martello cores. Forget what was what, but certain ones affect things like treasure and chest spawn rates. Emphasis on chest manifestation enhancement. The more frequently chests can drop, the more chances you have to get a gold chest.

Otherwise, it's basically pot luck. Get as close as you can to an increase of big gold chests. Once you start seeing augmented items showing up, you're close to or in the "danger zone" where KI's start showing up more often.

One way to keep track of it is to check the boxes as if you were going to open them. It will give you a range to guess in (like 11-33). Once the higher number hits @50, you are near capped tier 3. Any higher than that, you are getting into Tier 4 range where large chests with KI can start spawning. You want to keep that high number UNDER 75 so it keeps a decent number of smaller chests. Any higher than that, and you will be shifting towards a higher large chest rate with KI's in them.

As Sylvons suggested, mass-killing/cleaving is a good strategy for getting what you want. You CAN still optimize your amber, but the sheer number of chests you will see almost makes capped amber a non-issue.

@OP, I'm not sure why you're RDM/DNC, but that suggests to me that you're meleeing. RDM in abyssea can kill much faster with pure nuking than by meleeing, so if RDM is your only job, I'd strongly suggest /SCH instead. A job that can cleave would be an even better option, if you have one available.

For that matter, also keep in mind that there is a limited number of chests per zone that can appear at once. If you have decent pearl light and you're not getting chests from nearly every mob, check for other groups cleaving and not promptly opening/destroying chests.

You could cleave on Rdm itself if you're so inclined and got the atmas for Aeolian.

My wife and I farmed up all 20 feet just so we could be done with them. I had 8/8 nin feet seals for nearly 3 months before we finally got nin shoes. for us the key seems to be ~124-150 amber lights. This is the sweet spot for small gold chests without too many large gold chests appearing based on our personal experience

If you are farming in Attohwa, try this:

Equip atmas that enhance MAB and wind elemental damage. I would suggest: Atma of Gales, Atma of Hell's Guardian/Atma of the Ultimate/Atma of the Baying Moon/Atma of the Beyond (one of these, if you have Hells Guardian get that first otherwise work down the line), and Atma of the Gnarled Horn/Atma of Roaring Laughter (when you are cleaving, I find counter to be important for TP gain).

Next, max amber. Only get Azure to 128. Dont be too concerned with pearl (as you will naturally get it while cleaving). You wont be getting many time extensions, but I found that not getting any more than 128 azure is important as otherwise, you will get like 70% blue boxes, 20% gold, and 10% red with anything more than 128 azure. Actually, many times when I was farming feet I skipped azure entirely.

Lastly, cleave chigoes using the dagger WS Aeolian Edge (hopefully you have it, it requires 290 dagger skill but hopefully yours is closer to 390).

I first attempted to get my feet on my MNK killing a few at a time but I became frustrated after 30+ hours farming using a similar method you are using now. I switched to THF and followed the advice above and got ALL feet to drop within 3-4 hours (I had to reenter cause of a timeout too).

Haven't seen it mentioned, or maybe i just missed it, but OP do you have all of your Abyssites of Destiny? If not, you will have better luck with gold chests in general if you can nab all three. Not a night and day difference imo, but still noticeable-especially when in a pt with ppl that don't have any of them at all.

Only problem i run into when helping friends get boots now is getting multiples for jobs no one needs.

If you are "cleaving" using Aeolian Edge, you don't need Amber maxed to start. AE kill shots will give amber, so you can start with a lower amount and it will gradually work its way up to cap.

Thats true, and thats what I usually do. But just to point out, I believe if you kill several mobs at once with a spell or WS - say, 6 mobs die - you wont get the lights from 6 mobs, only one.

Still though, its prolly best just to go in cleaving like svlyons said.
