Are there still RMT around?Follow

Firstly never used RMT services ever so this is just something that has caught my interest and wondered what you guys think.

Decided out of curiosity (as you do at 4am) to click one of the RMT adds on ffxiah.com just to see what they offered these days seems as gil got phased out a bit in favour of rare/ex stuff kind of during the abyssea phase, though money based drops have made a bit of a return it seems in Void Watch and I suppose people want currency for relics and other Empy/Mythic things still.

So first thing that made me chuckle was there power levelling projection 1-75 was about $400 and would take 17 days so guessing they have not updated since abyssea ^^ and the prices for gil seemed to be up from memory of 2+ years ago when I last checked to see what my character was potentially worth for bragging rights lol (though I could never have someone else running round as me delete or nothing imo after giving stuff away).

Now I can't say I have seen any RMT activity recently and I suppose a lot of the competition element is gone so they would be a less noticeable, plus SE had that big banning stage ages ago but that didn't stop them coming back with new copies of the game etc, so are they still around I just assume if there are still adverts and websites maybe they are but just operating low profile the games not dead yet so I assume they could still make money or have they all moved on to newer games?

I suppose the obvious suspect activity are the Fell Cleave PL parties that ask for 100k for an hour etc though they could just as easily be legit money makers its not hard to do and is not against terms of service unless you could prove they are selling that money somehow. The website didn't offer this service as it was clearly dated but perhaps they could farm an Empy or +2 for you that would be hard to trace by SE and would you be able to tell by looking at them? and no full pink Ninja called xghhdsj does not necessarily mean they are RMT haha ^^.

Whats your take on the situation any confirmed sightings?

I still see advertisements on various FFXI related websites selling gil for the servers. I'd say RMT is still very much alive and well, just driven underground. ...a bit like Moblins really :p

Edit: I don't agree with the whole "buy your way to 99" ethos. FC parties which advertise 10-hour long parties while you afk and get XP are little more than abhorrent in my opinion, especially when they ask it of players who can happily contribute as much as they can leech.

First of all your RMT website is way out of date. A quick google search and I found this:
Quote:
Level 1-95 Package

1. level 1-95
2. Free Gap Limit 1-8
3. Level another job to LV40

6 Days USD$ 265.00

We have a couple people who advertise Fell Cleave parties 24/7 on Lakshmi at like 1mil/12hours. Between this and converting cruor to chocobo blinkers to gil I would say RMT aren't struggling.

The RMT are some of the most active players now. Good for them, much better than them camping the good stuff. And with the whole SEID matching scheme The /tell bots died. Good riddance to bad meat.

OMG! The RMT have moved onto slave trafficking! I need a good tank, a Dark Knight and a Red Mage. We'll save those poor souls!

Short answer: RMT are back, but not in as great of numbers.

Long answer: RMT were never really gone, the people doing the RMT'ing just changed. The RL value of gil dropped like a brick in the last few years for a couple of reasons: 1) the STF actually did a pretty darn good job of muscling them out and 2) gil became pretty darn easy to obtain. It just wasn't worth it for the big Chinese (or whatever) RMT groups to put in the work of farming it anymore. This resulted in the popular FFXI RMT websites to change from selling gil to offering a 'middleman' service for 'honest' players to sell their gil to other players.

In other words, nowadays the RMT are actual players.

Yes they are still around just not as many as before because the player base has dropped along with the value of Gil.

There are still a few regular RMT out there, like the guy that does an FC leech shout on Sylph during prime time every day, 5 days a week.

We have the same on Lakshmi, but those aren't the same type of RMT that we used to see. I've had some brief interactions with the FC shouters on Lakshmi, and they speak perfect English and know game terminology, unlike the old Chinese RMTs. They might have nonsense names like 'Enawefave', but I'm convinced that they're characters made by people who actually play the game.

I came across a group like this one day in port sandy about 3 weeks ago, all the mules were trading to a main char and then logging out. I did a trade and window opened but nothing was entered and after a few min the trade window was closed.

Are RMT around so much any more? Not really. The demand for gil does not outstrip supply like it used to, and gil is no longer the only means for certain items and such.

Are there still assholes around that will MPK you and monopolize mobs and generally behave like RMT used to? Hell yes...
