The fast-approaching major version update will usher in auspicious adjustments spanning a wide range of in-game elements. Today, it is our pleasure to introduce the changes that are scheduled for the Chocobo Circuit, the fishing quest "Inside the Belly," and more!

Chocobo Circuit

- Bigger Rewards
The amount of chocobucks rewarded to first, second, and third place winners in chocobo racing will be significantly increased.

- Revised Race Schedule
The Chocobo Circuit schedule has undergone a full review. The C2 Chocobo Race and C1 Crystal Stakes will be held with greater frequency, and races will take place at the same time each Earth day, making it easier for players to participate than ever before.

*The red and blue race attendants above will alternately conduct races.

- New Rewards
The dashing racing silks dutifully worn by jockeys will be added to the list of reward items obtainable in exchange for chocobucks. With each color offering unique beneficial effects for its wearer, there is bound to be something for every chocobo fan!

Quest: Inside the Belly

Players will be able to turn in more varieties of fish to the quest-starter NPC. Rumor has it these fishes have a penchant for swallowing up new equipment whole...?

Past Vana'diel

- Xarcabard [S]
Monster distribution will be adjusted to allow adventurers to safely arrive at their destination when using the teleportation service requiring Allied Notes.

- Eldieme Necropolis [S]
A number of gates within the necropolis will be adjusted to remain open at all times to allow players to find their way to union treasure chests at the end of a Campaign Battle.

All this and more is coming to you in the soon-arriving major version update!

About time they made this Matsya guttable.

Although I definitely expect to get nothing but 12,500~g (approximately half of its ->NPC value) for it... damn you Zaldon.

Hopefully this isn't the only update notice we get before Monday or it is going to be a very long weekend indeed. I'm not complaining at all though. Between the Job Adjustments, the new equipment system and the fact they still care about the smaller parts of the game that some people still enjoy. I think all and all this is going to be a healthier update than the last few have been. Fresh content throughout the entire game. Kudos Square Enix.

Glad to see some love being shown to Chocobo Circuit. I always enjoyed the races, never won though.

Wish they'd change the interface of selecting winners, its rather tedious.

Finally! You had to get the Chocobucks through the free races in town, but in the circuit races you had to put up 10/20/40/80 CB for the different races, and only the winner got his CB back.. the rest got a fraction of it back...

If you were lucky, you got to win some useless furniture, useless key item, useless title and/or a fraction of the gil you spend getting to that point in racing.
Now you can at least show off some useless gear :)

More win. Always a great joy being agrod by a bunch of mobs (or those freaking Ampiphteres...) or zone-in, or getting interrupted while grabbing campaign tag, for some nice dose of xp loss.

And being stuck behind those doors after campaign in Eldieme was a pain... so frustrating being stuck in the north or west rooms, with noone to open the union coffer >_<

I think it is safe to say this patch is by far the worst patch, and proof SE is not really supporting ffxi anymore just experimenting for ff14.

Why don't you quit already, seriously.

Either that or leave your idiotic comments to yourself.

Anyways...

Decent bit of minor adjustments, but it seem like they'll be benefical.
I'm especially happy that we might finally be geting some real epic campaign battles in Xarcabard, without worrying about normal monsters biting off our faces; instead we can worry about the campagin monsters.

Why defend it?

He's kinda right...so far theirs barely anything good about this update that's worthy of 3-4 months development time.

Run down the list of previews so far:

Wedding crap - Safe to say what 95% of the player base couldn't care less about this at this point in the game. In 2005 or 06 it might have meant something.

SMN & BST - I'm not an expert smn but apparently it's great. As for the bst...just *shaking my head*

Furnace - Sounded good but they saved "the catch" after hyping it for a day. Already expected to fail.

Chocobo circuit - The body pieces could re-new or leave it an already barren race track.

Fishing - Don't fish but I'm assuming this is good, but again very minor on what it takes to implement that.

Xarc - Quite possibly the best part and rivals almost entire past updates. Eldieme, minor but good.

So, in a nutshell we have two things: SMN & Xarc.

The only way they could possibly salvage this update is by adding something like an hq version of Yagudo drink...

Some of this is the kinda stuff that used to show up as a "surprise" in the update notes on patch day itself. Kinda funny to see em scrape it together for a teaser. XD

Nice adjustments, though. I got scarfed down by a tauri on teleport into beaucedine-s. Made me nervous to go back. If only they would move those guys a bit.

The fishing thing intrigues me. I have spent far, far more time with Zaldon than I would have liked, but I am kinda curious about stuff they are adding to him. See, Zaldon and I have this love/hate relationship. I hate him immensely, and he loves to do things that make me hate him more. :P
But actual new and interesting rewards could make me harass him a bit more.

Unless they spring some more zones on us, you're still possibly going to get scarfed there, because they only mentioned Xarc[S] getting updated.

This.

Being able to potentially make 100k in such a short time is nice and now with the chocobucks update, your friend will probably never have to do the npc races for chocobucks again.

For me, I see and realize that SE's update content has been going down in quality and amount, there's not much I can do when I still enjoy playing the game. If I had a problem with a significant lack of content for me to enjoy, then I would quit and stop giving SE my money.

I'm... kinda excited about this.

For the racing, depending on what the equipment does, I may have a reason to do Chocobo Hot/Cold and racing again.

For Inside the Belly, it may be just what I need to get motivated on fishing again.

Anything that can get me doing something other than the same old event grind week after week is good in my book.

If I were a SE dev-team member, I would be especially defeated to see content not being utilized. Pankration and Choco-racing come to mind. I find it strange that SE doesn't do more tweaks to current events to try and recapture the palyers versus making more and more new events.

Many of the complaints are tired to the timesink or "low reward for time spent" many MMOs fall into. At the older stages of FF11 it would be nice to see things become slighty more fruitful, as opposed to the same old "not worth it".

Sure, people might actually get what they want and stop participating in said event, but it's alot more enjoyment/time spent/monthly subsciption, than having people just quit.

So, in a nutshell we have two things: SMN & Xarc.

SMN is relative since it is a small boost bound up with penalties. (Supposedly lower damage from avatars, can't rest MP with favors on party, can't get siphon with favors out, locked out of building TP for 75 BPs, most likely no favor effect on avatars)

You could compare it to COR getting a haste roll, but it can't be used with WAR/DRK/SAM/THF rolls, unequips your gun each time you roll it and your HP can't be healed. Great update or craptastic update? According to most people it is great.

Personally I think it is great that we get something good. I'm just sick and tired that it has to come with at least 5 bad things for "balance" issues. Can't they let SMN be overpowered a few months and throw back-to-back icespikes armors and other awesome game breaking tricks?

RNG and /ra updates aren't bad either.

Really, they could've taken out all of the chocobo racing updates and added "The Runic Portal Use Permit is now a permanent key item that will deduct 200 IS automatically upon use" and the entire update would have become major win.

Well, there's also:

* New WotG nation quests. That's certainly what I'm most looking forward to. Although a lot of people haven't been doing them because there isn't a big shiny reward at the end revealed yet, the nation quests have been quite good so far. Great storylines (especially Windy and Bastok), pretty good battles, and some decent sellable rewards (Orichalcum Ingot, angelstone, deathstone, etc.). I'm hoping they finish up and give a nice reward for each nation, maybe add a quest/fight for a cool piece of R/E gear for people who finish all 3 storylines.

It's annoying that a lot of the fights require all party members to be on/past that nation quest, but they aren't bad if you get a static group together and go do them.

* And there's also that "other" thing coming alongside the update, A Shantotto Ascension. Yes, I know that's technically a separate mini-expansion. But it does become available at the same time, and it's another thing for people to do. Very nice final reward, judging from the past two mini-expansions there's a good chance of some nifty other Tenshodo treasure coffer rewards for winning the fights, and there's always hope that the missions/story will be good (lessened a bit by what we've seen so far, but it's possible!).

I personally like story/mission/quest content more than anything else in FFXI. So having two significant storyline content additions this month is something I'm looking forward to. Other than that, SMN changes are the most intriguing thing.
