Introducing the Add-on Trilogy Bonus Gift! (11/02/2009)

To commemorate the release of the third and final add-on scenario, we are proud to introduce the "Nexus Cape," an in-game bonus item for players who have purchased the entire trilogy. All characters under a single player account registered for all three add-ons will be eligible for this gift.
Owners of the FINAL FANTASY XI ULTIMATE COLLECTION, scheduled for release on November 10, can also shout with glee, as the gift will be available to them also.

Following the release of the next version update, eligible characters may collect their Nexus Cape from the treasure coffer located within the Tenshodo Headquarters in Lower Jeuno.

[img=147182]

The Nexus Cape is an enchanted item that allows characters in a party to teleport to their party leader's location. Please note, however, that the enchantment's effectiveness is limited to certain destinations only. Provided that all requisite conditions are fulfilled, characters may teleport to the areas listed below:

Uleguerand Range / Attohwa Chasm / West Ronfaure / East Ronfaure / La Theine Plateau / Valkurm Dunes / Jugner Forest / Batallia Downs / North Gustaberg / South Gustaberg / Konschtat Highlands / Pashhow Marshlands / Rolanberry Fields / Beaucedine Glacier / Xarcabard / Cape Teriggan / Eastern Altepa Desert / West Sarutabaruta / East Sarutabaruta / Tahrongi Canyon / Buburimu Peninsula / Meriphataud Mountains / Sauromugue Champaign / Yuhtunga Jungle / Yhoator Jungle / Western Altepa Desert / Qufim Island / Behemoth's Dominion / Valley of Sorrows / Southern San d'Oria / Northern San d'Oria / Port San d'Oria / Bastok Mines / Bastok Markets / Port Bastok / Windurst Waters / Windurst Walls / Port Windurst / Windurst Woods / Ru'Lude Gardens / Upper Jeuno / Lower Jeuno / Port Jeuno / Rabao / Selbina / Mhaura / Kazham / Norg

The enchantment effect will differ slightly depending upon the party leader's current location: field areas or towns. For field areas, users will be sent directly to where their party leader stands, while for towns, they will be teleported to where a home point may be set.
Bring a Nexus Cape with you on your adventures, and you need not fear being left behind by your comrades ever again!

*The teleportation will be rendered ineffective if the party leader changes areas in the middle of casting. It is recommended that party members communicate their intent to teleport beforehand.
*Characters may teleport only to areas they have previously visited.
*Teleporting to areas introduced in expansions is possible only after installation and code registration have been completed for the expansion pack in question. This does not, however, affect one's eligibility to obtain the Nexus Cape.

at first i was thinking woohooo a good augment cape for pup.
Was really hoping they would toss mog snachel in there to... with that cape i really am running out of space.

I would rather have had this cape with a easy quest so everyone has it. most of the time i am waiting on others but this will be useful sometimes.

Ha! Nice try SE but you're not going to get me to buy them, despite this easily being the most convenient teleport item in the game.

It's also quite obvious why you listed these two zones first.

A little disappointed at the forty hour recast though. It couldn't have at least been 24 so you could reasonably use this once a day?

I don't know. It's hard to get excited over this after forking out thirty bucks for barely any content. Still, it will come in handy on occasion.

Well, that's ... something else. It'd have been more useful if it were provided a few years ago when some of those places were still being visited. While 40 hours sounds like a lot of time, the chances you'll even go to those sites means you won't be using it that much anyway, presumably if you don't use an outpost warp first.

I always thought that BLM should have a "Warp III" type spell that did something like this (warps entire party to BLM's location). That would probably be way overpowered, though :P

Anyway, I'm all in favor of anything that makes random events easier to complete, and this looks like it will help a lot. Too bad there will be a lot of people who won't have this, since not everyone bought all three expansions. It could be kind of worthless as a time saver if not everyone in the party has one. Though, I can still see it being useful...

I could see it being potentially useful for those hnmls that may send a handful to another zone in order to get the ToD for an NQ hnm (like Adamantoise or Behemoth). In case there's a chance of Aspid or King Behemoth spawning but the rest of the shell is somewhere else, they could have one person in each party head out to BD or VoS and, if the HQ's spawn, party leader can be changed to those "scouts" and the rest of the shell can just quickly warp out there.

I will have to leave mules in Attowa Chasm and Uleguerand Range. That will save a lot of travel time for ENMs. Other than that it will have limited use.

It would be nice if you could use it to get straight to an NM in sky or sea, but of course you can't use it for those areas.

40 hours does seem a bit long, but in reality it probably wouldn't be used that often anyways.

I also really hope that's not the complete list of zones. No WotG or ToAU areas? The Sanctuary of Zi'tah? Ro'Maeve? Sky/Sea? I can understand it being outdoor areas only, but at least give us all of them.

Good idea, they could just switch party leader. Also, when shouting for a pickup group to do some event, you can just have 2 people... one doing the shouting and inviting, and one making his way to the location. Once you finally gather all the people you need, switch leaders and use the cape. Saves TONS of time... if enough people have this, I can see getting groups together for some events getting a lot easier and faster.

check the areas again. no ToA or WotG zones. looks like only RoZ zones with the exception of:

Uleguerand Range / Attohwa Chasm

the more i look at it the more i realize it is absolutely pointless. any of the zones on that list are accessible within ~5min travel time. couple that with the fact that you have to be in the same region to invite someone and you have to be 30+ to use the cape. if anything, this is just something people will use if they want to afk. "invite me, im gonna make a sandwich. i'll warp to you when you get there". autofollow has now been dethroned as the laziest thing you can do now. cant even warp to einherjar/nashmau, what a @#%^ing waste.

I would think it natural not to have Zi'Tah on the list. Well... according to SE's logic and such. I don't remember the Aery all that well, but I do know of that ledge that heads into it. Can't remember if there were any dropoffs between Faf's pop spot and the zone line to Zi'Tah.

But obviously SE wants to put a halt to folks who'd use that to skip over to Faf at a moment's notice. Kinda surprised that they gave access to the Valley and the Dominion so easily though.

Isn't Dragon's Aery considered a dungeon? Seems like they left out any and all dungeons for places you can teleport to.

the list is a bit odd considering some zones is missing, like zi'tah. It would be strange that they exclude it from the list just because you could telport easy to fafnir/nidhog when they have included both behemoths dominion and valley of sorrows. Might be only to zones where you have a business with thge addon's, or they just plain forgot Zi'tah

Best use for this I can see is low level parties. Get invited as soon as you hit the Quifim zone, warp to party at Delfkutts entrance. Or for Jungle, Dunes, etc., would save time. Not as good a piece as it would have been years ago, but still nice of SE to do it. They didn't have to give us anything at all.

I might have to buy the addons now, I could use a Regain Feather once a week in addition to not having to climb that damn mountain anymore.

Quote:
Touch a Luminant spawn in Attohwa Chasm to obtain a Mimeo Stone (refer to the map on the right). You must then race up to the top of use the enchantment on your Nexus cape and teleport to your mule that you placed at the top of Parradamo Tor and touch the Cradle of Rebirth to obtain your reward.
Every ~1m15s to 1m20s the stone fades, the number of fades before you reach the top determines your reward:
0 Fades: Regain Feather (Grants you 100% HP, 100% MP and 300% TP)

Of course this only works if you dual box, or have someone in ls who has a mule they can leave sitting up there. You could probably do the buddy system with a friend, one person climbs, and waits for you to get your feather, once you're done, then they go down, you stay and wait at the cradle, switch pt leaders and let them find a stone then let them warp to you.

I made a wish yesterday, no lie. I said:

I wish there was such a thing as "Teleport: Boneyard Gully"

I do Sheep in Antlion's Clothing almost every week, and every time either someone is way ahead of me or lagging way behind. The battle itself takes only 15 minutes (at most, that being if you run out of time for some reason) but just the process of getting there and being ready can literally take hours...

I have climbed the mountain at least a hundred times by now between the three of my characters, and by now I know the way by heart-- but I still have off days where the mountain just seems to deliberately push me clean off of it, as if the most narrow ledges are booby trapped with invisible force fields that activate only when you walk over them. Some days this just doesn't happen. It's a mystery.

Duel boxing two characters means having to climb it twice, and having three is just miserable. Not only will this cape save time in the worst part, the mountain, but the rest of the hiking as well, where usually my friend is standing at Boneyard Gully waiting for me, threatening to fall asleep.

I already have purchased the entire trilogy, so this new cape comes as a pleasant surprise to me. In fact, it is a pure godsend.

Nifty cape item, I like that it's something very unique, but not game breaking. I have bought all three mini-expansions, I was going to do it without some kind of in game item, much less an item for all three, but even I see this as money-grabbing from SE and it is kind of annoying. Plus, I don't know how much more my inventory can take.

Also, isn't there an exit from Dragon's Aery into Zi'tah? Maybe that's why you can' use it there? I agree though, this should be all zones from any location, regardless.

I expected that to be the case, but I thought people were dieing, being tractored to the top, and getting raised to get the cradle before, leading me to believe you don't lose the stone on a zone, like when tractored. I've never tried the tractor method before, seemed too much setup required and everyone had to be in perfect positions which means someone would screw it up by being a dumbass, not to mention the exp loss.

People might do that for other reasons if they really, really hate doing the climb normally, but it's not getting them a Regain Feather. Stone is lost when tractored, and in fact I think you lose the stone just for d/cing or logging out, too (but not certain on that one, my memory is hazy)

Anyone who you've ever seen using a Regain Feather did a pos hack or cheated somehow to get it.

Still trying to logic out why Ro'maeve is left off the list. I thought maybe because of the Moongate areas, but if someone else opens the door for you, you can go back there regardless if you have the key item or not, so that doesn't make much sense. Is it because of the full moon bridge? That's the best I can come up with.

Like others, I don't see why SE's keeping Zi'Tah off when they offer ports to Behemoth's Dominion and Valley of Sorrows. Yes, Fafnir/Nidhogg are still highly contested, but I've seen recent competition at the other zones too, so it seems like they should all be treated equally.

Partner this with the new ability to invite any person in any zone from anywhere, and then I'll be excited.

Seeing as how you still need to be close (zone wise) to someone to invite them, this cape has very limited uses. Most often it will probably be used as Vlorsutes described, by HNM shells.

Though I had expected some sort of reward would make sense for people who bought all 3 add-ons, SE never mentioned anything so it was always just an idea. I think bitching about this cape as some is already doing seems really cynical and just plain petulant.

I think the cape is mighty useful for doing the various CoP/Zilart era content in the games. And a great time saver for things like ENM.

eh? I'm in situations where the party is made and one person in the party goes ahead to camp or is somehow ahead, all the time. The person can be me or someone else.

With this cape, whoever is ahead can just be given party leader for the rest of the group to teleport and catch up.

It's uses is certainly not limited to HNM activities.

It wouldn't be new, though. You used to be able to do this. If they bring it back, it'd probably be the most exciting change this patch.

40 hour recast though? Blah.

So, does this mean we can all get Regain Feathers?

I don't think you can get a Regain Feather if you zone after getting the Key Item for the quest, and all Teleports count as zoning, so no.

Man, when i first saw it, I said, "Wow, goodbye stupid Kirin teleporter!!"
Then I saw the list of eligible zones and went ; ;
The most common times I would use this are:
1) Sky NM's
2) Merit camp assessments
3) skillups in the Boyhada tree
4) Getting to NM/HNM camps quickly

Only the latter is useful with this cape since it doesn't cover ToA areas, Sanctuary of Zitah, Sky (or Sea for that matter). So much potential wasted.

But I'm not going to smack a gift horse in the mouth. I'll throw this into my mog satchel and appreciate it when it comes in handy.

I assume I could, say, get ACP sometime in January and still be able to get the cape?

Man, some of you people sure are cynical. After playing many MMOs I am confident that even the most shallow and shoddy bone that SE throws us will be more entertaining than what often gets mis-labeled as "content" in other games. It may be a cash grab in a minor sense but I still see the effort they put into it. At least they aren't charging us money to change our names or change our hair yet.

I wasn't expecting anything extra from purchasing all three expansions so this seems nice to me. Now they just need to make it so that you can invite people from anywhere...

Just wanted to say in reply to all the mad endgamers who have responded to this with cinicism or hostility. Get over yourself, Se doesn't give 2 sh*ts about your precious endgame, they don't develop for just the top tier of a game and I'm glad they don't.

To those complaining this would have been useful years ago but not now, shut it, this is still as useful today as it ever would have been in the past few years. I for one can think of over 200 uses just off the top of my head and I don't have a job left under level 40.

You can't use this in sky, sea or any CoP clear area's (Misereaux, Lufaise, Cape riverne. Good You shouldn't be able to, Zitah does have a zone to dragons aery and if they had made this useful there every hnm shell on every server would have screamed all the louder. Romaeve is a different story I can think of 2 reasons this area is not permitted. Moongates for 1, and Ark Pentasphere for another. SE wants these items to be difficult to obtain. Not so many years ago obtaining those items was as much an adventure as the fights and xp parties those items allowed for. Just because they are not treated as such or used does not make them any less diminished.

Personally I bought all 3 expansions as they were released, I've enjoyed each mini expansion to date fully and have gotten my money's worth and more. Nothing I can say can fix the delusions most of you have developed. It saddens me that this sorry lot of stat counters replaced the fun loving roleplayers whom used to inhabit the servers, SE, and FFXI is wasted on you.

Anyone else have the feeling that maybe the ability to have a teleport effect like this is tied into the coordinate system they added with the event support service? Would explain why this is the first time we're seeing any effect like this if it's only recently that it's possible to retrieve a persons exact location for a person to person teleport.

Yea... no real content...

If you ignore the MMM additions... and the new mission-quests for WotG... the adjustments to Smn/Bst/Rng... and whatever is planned for all of those awesome looking new equipment sets and those mysterious looking weapons...

What exactly counts as "real" content in the world of xbobbobx anyway? All you ever do is bitch about how everything sucks.

Also a preemptive "@#%^ you" to whatever snide remark you'll use as your defence.

The only thing this cloak means, at least to me, is a legitimate reliable way to obtain a Regain Feather every 40 hours, which is basically HAX.

EDIT: Not quite sure why I got sub-defaulted for this, but anyone who uses the back piece for the use I just stated will be better off. Its a get-out-of-jail-free item that has pretty much no restrictions except for being ridiculously difficult to get. Now, however, the item switches to become ridiculously easy to get.

I mean look at this: http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?fitem=8744

Anyone who's played this game long enough knows what the hell I'm talking about, anyone who hasn't, well, you probably had no clue and deserve the de-level you get for NOT using it for this reason (assuming its possible).

This isn't any ordinary item we are talking about, we are talking of an item that heals you to full, gives you 300 tp, and refills ALL of your MP, that is now repeatably obtainable for FREE, every single time the cloak cool-down is up. It's the only thing any sane person who plays this game will probably use it for. Any group struggling on any particular high level boss fights will probably 'expect' multiple people to have these every couple days if it ends up being 'easy' to get these because of the cloak.

The only other decent use for this item was already stated, make an alt, grind it up to 30 on something that can sneak/invis, make sure the cloak goes to them, and leave the alt perma-parked in bearclaw-pinnacle or some-such-annoying-to-get-to-place so people can get there without hassle.

Basically, the game was better when people spent more time talking about how they were going to do some mission/party/bcnm/nm/whatever, and less time arguing over which piece of gear will increase their DPS by 0.5% on firesday if the mob has feint on it, and you have two bards (but NOT a bard and a corsair, because then Y piece provides 0.2% more WS!)

Because now its WoW. You idiots made it this way.
