I am currently a DArk Age of Camelot Infiltrator, level 50, and I am currently thinking of starting a career in Everquest as a Ranger. What is the best race and area to start a fledgling Ranger? I have read a few posts on various sites on the internet, but I don't feel many people are serious on most forums. I'd like to have some serious Everquest gamers respond to this if possible to get the best info as possible.

Wood Elf - Tunare.

Being a night blind human is far worse than the lower strength of a Wood Elf.

Half Elves lack too much in wisdom. In fact I would argue that even Humans lack in wisdom.

You'll get lots of people saying play what you want, or like the look of, but if you want the best ranger you can have at 65, make a wood elf.

All the other johnny come latelies don't count.

Tunare is important for diety restricted equipment.

Stat-wise, halflings probably make the best rangers. Halfling jokes aside, they are well-rounded (no pun intended) in stats and have a great newbie area that can carry you into your teens without ever having to leave home. However, if a short, plump hairy footed guy doesn't fit your image of a bow carrying guardian of the woods, wood elves, humans and half elves are still very viable. In fact, halflings are a Johnny-come-lately since originally they couldn't even be rangers.

Heh, the above response hadn't been posted when I did, so I find it amusing we both used the same phrase to describe halflings. I'll admit that Iluien plays a ranger and I've never played one seriously so take his advice with more thought than you'd take mine
