BFF Report - Ep 91 - Star Wars: The Old Republic (part 2)
Mike B is back to continue his coverage of the upcoming MMO, Star Wars: The Old Republic. This week, he focuses on flashpoints and reflects back on his thoughts on questing.
After only playing the last beta (the one everyone got into) the game felt awesome. The structure is the same as any other mmo so yes it is structured like wow but one thing is for sure the game feels extremely immersive. This type of feel is what old mmo players enjoyed about mmos and what new mmo players don't understand or appreciate anymore. The major thing that worries me is fony said the progression story line ends pretty early which might be the only reason why this game has such great immersion.
i wish this covered operations QQ, i really wonder if the choices you make in those larger raids give you different bosses like the flash points do.
Generally speaking i think this game is gonna be for bioware fans/star war fans and anyone who just grew ill of playing wow. SWTOR will give you the same task you do in wow just with a different world/lore/feel and hopefully some new content on top.
As far as pvp i got to early 20s in the beta and yes i had about 3 CCs as an operative agent, but everyone else had mass CCs as well and using that break CC spell had to be used at the perfect time or it was basically useless. something else i notice while pvping is healer's resources were extremely limited forcing them to dps many times to recover their resource to heal while having long cast time heals and all players seemed extremely tanky... there was no 123 kills seen in this. why does this matter? it is a different formula of pvp mass CC is only an issue when players can be killed in 3-5 seconds from 100% with healing so difficult to cast CCs will be aimed to use on them while they cast them. i wouldn't worry about SWTOR's PVP all the BGs are set up to have many small fights and using you're CC in the right order becomes more of the challenge then you have 178237 CCs lets spam them randomly. i am very curious on what Fony will say about the PVP.
I have played the beta for a few months, to be honest the only disappointment is PVP thus far for me. Why? Stealth and cover are completely useless, and there is to much damn CC. I am level 20 something and I have 4 forms of CC. Either way, new game, I expect flaws, and it gives me time away from Mists of Pokemon.
Really? Cover and stealth bad? I suppose I can understand that, from my experience it's a bit different. A 50 Assassin opening from you on stealth is deadly. Deadly as balls, guy. Then there's the battle stealth that lets folk get away to heal because it puts them out of combat. And have you ever seen a sniper and gunslinger get into cover? No? Good! Don't let them. Stop that ship, blast them. They will hurt.
The CC thing, eh, I'm still on the fence with that. With the free CC breaker/trinket given to everyone and the resolve bar on top of fights not ending in two seconds (unless you find a sniper/gunslinger in cover), I've never found it to be too big of a problem.
I may have just lucked out/be totes oblivious, but my biggest gripe with the PvP is how little the guard and taunt abilities are used. They're useful, guys! But yeah, new game, got flaws, will be worked on as any mmo should.
