Episode 60 - Gods and Heroes

SUP, first off i like what u guys r doing i love this show also legendary and Lore with that hair.... but i digress. IMO lil games like these are not worth my or anyone's time i understand they are trying to make it out here in this cruel cruel world ruled by Blizz, and i see that alot of them are the same kind of "hey here's this crudely put together game, have fun". i would think that they would at least want to spit shine the content before releasing anything. so that being said why would i go play a weak knock off when i can just as easily go play the real deal. i don't know that's just my opinion so basically small studios putting together stuff that we have to pay for and it isn't up to par i think most players would not want to pay. correct me if im wrong but that's just how im feeling right now at 8:31 in the morning after the palladium last night /hangover maddness
Smaller MMO's

Hi Mike,

In regards to your question at the end about smaller MMO's emrging-

I think WoW is catering to too many people and not really excelling in one area. Smaller MMO's will be able to cater to a particular area of MMO's more so than WoW can, they are simply too big and once something requires pushing more than one button, we have people crying in their pancakes and Blizzard bringing out the nerf bat making the game less fun for the more seasoned players.

In short I think smaller MMO's will do well enough and make better games that cater to a smaller crowd, but never topple WoW, only Blizzard can ***** that pooch.

Great shows, and keep up the awesomeness.

Nerd Seeks MMO!
Like's; Games with decent functionality, Decent graphics, and amazing Lore(aka story behind it), and decent learning curve.
Turn off's; Anything that model after the Sim's, Angles, and Kiddie cartoon graphics. Also boring stories that you will find Ben Stein on Discovery Channel resiting biblical religious mumbo jumbo!
Turn ON's; Hot PVP, RvR, hard-core Raiding(panties glorious panties opps sorry off-Topic), And some MUST have DYNAMIC content so the luving doesn't stop!

Ideally seeking good old mystic vs futurama style game.
Anyways always looking for good Grind session!

P.S. Hopes this gives good laugh! Brought you by Tombstonex!

Sub based games means the company can put more money into the game since it will have a predictable revenue stream unlike f2p which is honestly mostly ad driven. this makes for better games since your players are driving the games instead of your advertisers. I think the problem is though if companies start making games where they are going after that 1-2 months of subs then don't care if 90% if their population leaves after that (exactly what happens with games that aren't at least fairly polished) - then the company might make their investment back but those players that were looking forward to the games just won't come back to the next ones because they no longer trust the devs/company.

F2P also does have its place, i just think its not in mmorpgs, there are some great f2p games (the dota rip off League of legends comes to mind)

I had been playing in the G&H beta for a while, and being an old school MMOG player I can really appreciate the feel of the game. I really like some of the concepts that they are implementing such as the estates and the companions. To answer your main question Mike I personally dabble in lots of MMOGs. Some I pick up and put down, and some I spend more time on. I came from MUDs and my first mainstream MMOG was Ultima Online, so I'm open to try just about anything. I do think that there is plenty of room in the MMOG world for these smaller studios and the cool niche games they put out. For instance I play Fallen Earth casually, and love that game. I also played in a huge nullsec alliance/corp in EVE for a few years and I currently am in a progression raiding guild in WoW.

Is GnH G2G or SOL?

Great BFF, I've been watching/playing GnH for a long time (way back in the day when it was in beta the first time, get off my lawn ya dern kids!).

While it is fun, it is not on the same playing field as Rift which just came out. Maybe if GnH uses a discounted pricing model it can bring some of us into their camp, we'll see. Graphics aren't everything, but they do need to be up to par with the current crop. The flipside of the equation is to have compelling content that compensates. In it's current state, I don't believe GnH has the content to offset the dated graphics and animations.

Thriller dance? Boom, flower.

I think we need more drunk photos though that is for certain. That Cody guy, he's got a face for radio. I kid, he's a good buddy and fun to have a few beers (or twenty) with.

Thanks for such a humorous report! I especially like the part when your God talked to you.

There were many things in your report which are happily already fixed or are on their way to being fixed. We're working close with QA and much of the things you report will be smooth and awesome.

For the Estates piece, the upgrade from the current encampment, you only need to look here:
http://www.zam.com/story.html?story=25587

It's a great feature about the Estates, Crafting, Fast travel, quest tracker and mature content. We're also adding in many UI improvements for this next patch, such as the difficulty in locating your minion toolbar (lower left corner).

Hope to see you back checking it out after our next big patch!

Cheers,
Donna

Can't wait to see what you'll have to say about Dark Millenium.
Site lacks info, but here's hoping Dawn of War + the darksiders engine looks and plays well.

Here's a mixup for you, try out a game that just recently came out called Test Drive Unlimited 2. I KNOW it's a car game which is totally different than what you usually review, but it IS one of the closest things to a car MMO that's out there.

I have been playing it on and off, it's got some interesting features and I found the game to be fairly fun but there are also plenty of things for you to poke fun at and stuff.

Love the show, keep it up.
been asking since youtube

hehe Small studio's ftw! tis shame that the Bigger Studio's put smaller ones out busissiness and make that genre of game hard to craete cuz of the competetion!!..

Also that player area housing-ish part sounds awesome and more games should be doing it :)

Great show Mike! Been watching your reviews since your Aion reviews and I love them! Finally deciding to give you some feedback on your show, but you seem to be handling it just fine and dandy :).

First of all, this is going to require a subscription? Looks like crap to me... yeah I understand it's in beta but it looks so old! There is no way a game that looks like it back tracked in technology is going to get a lot of subscribers. Vindictus looks far better than that and it's free!

As for types of games I'll be playing, I'm really big into Rift atm, but I'm looking forward to SWTOR and Guild Wars 2. I don't really like the idea of playing the smaller MMOs unless they're free because, I feel like they would just be a waste of money. I guess I have high expectations for purchasing a new game because the standards have been set so high by previous games.

I know you like to do MMOs, but do a review on Dragon Age 2! Mine's still on it's way from Amazon but I played the demo and it looks freaking fantastic, except for one thing... the darkspawn look like monkeys >.<

Be easy bro
