Its good to see some of the older games get a look in, EQ1 is definitely still not dead by any means though, it has a fan base some newer MMO's *cough WAR* envy.

Its great to see a Froglok too since that is the race I play in EQ2, we need more Frogloks!

As for games to see next though its a tough one, Eve would be interesting to see covered because while I've heard about it I still know so little about the actual gameplay. But if you want to really cover an old game then Ultima Online would have to be it.

Otherwise (re)visiting some of the earlier/established games like EQ2, Anarchy, AoC, Eve etc would be fantastic, it would be worth it just to denude some players of the notion that their MMO invented everything out there :)

Plus its getting boring hearing about xyz new MMO, especially when they're not bringing anything really new to the table.

Eve-online would be an interesting show... I really wanna see you fly a newbie ship pass an 0.0 gate camp :) I like the classic shows idea btw....I have a lot of fond memories of UO.

Hope you have a starter corp or at least a space brosef lined up because EVE is -not- for the faint of heart. And PLEASE don't pull a Yahtzee and disregard player run corporations, that's basically like saying "I would prefer to have as little fun as possible." Good luck, you'll definitely need it.
Go for Classics

Mike B,

Love the EQ throwback. Nicely done... You should totally do one for Ultima Online. Since it the current live servers are nothing like the old school (1999) servers for UO, you should go to a reputable shard that does run things very similar. Check out http://inporylem.com

You'll be logged in and checking it out, old school, in less than 10 minutes.

Hey MikeB I don't remember a BFF report about Aion but if you did do another one. Its getting cheap and I'm thinking about playing. I know Rift is soooo much better but my PC can't take it. Playing WOW for so many years I never really needed to upgrade not even for Cata. So check out Aion (again) for me! Love, Peace & Pwnage!

Please do one about FFXI! "Old school" FFXI if you can, because while it's been around for nearly nine years, it's changed a lot over the past two, and only a very small percentage of their player base stayed with the game long enough to see those changes. (Not to imply that people left because the game was bad. It's just that after six or seven years, even the most fun games can start to feel stale.) So if you could somehow go back to explore the time before they nerfed mission, world boss, and leveling difficulties, before they started raising the level cap to 99 to keep their remaining addicts subscribed, and before they started coming out with mini download-able expansions, that would be awesome, because that would be the game that the vast majority of their player base is familiar with. Whatever games you might choose though, I'll be looking forward to more episodes like this!

So, I'd like you to check one of the most under-rated MMOs in the history of the Genre, its about 10 years old now, and one of the most complex, and huge learning curved games in existence, even more so than EQ...

In fact, if you do a BFFReport on it, I'd reactivate my old account, (almost 9 years I've been playing his game on and off) and take you through some of the sights and get you a decent start to get the most for your report...

The game?

The one and only Anarchy Online.

People think EQ, DAoC and all those games have a learning curve? Wait until you set foot on Rubi-Ka...

I loved your delving into this game. When I started it back when I was 10 years old (2000) I spent 6 hours dieing to rats! But this game was so addicting I couldn't believe it. This was my first time getting into an MMO and as much as I love WoW, EQ will always be my first love. The game was actually difficult and required skill and knowledge that not any ******* could pick up the game and figure it out. Killing mobs was about as hard as killing bosses once you got past lvl50. Back in the early days there weren't really any quests and we just would grind on stuff for EVER to level up, and then you'd die and lose 8 hours of your life... Oh yeah and you have to run back to your body to get your gear back! Oh noez.

I remember when we screwed up on a pull and got too many mobs we'd all book it to the zone exit to save ourselves from death lol. My main was a high elf fire mage and boy was it fun! Then I made a warrior froglok which was SICK :P

If the game had more subscribers I would totally play it again, but I got back into it a while ago and grinding mobs meant for full groups is just too tough... too bad they screwed up EQ2.

Love that you get to show these noobies what it used to be all about. :p

Do EVE Online. That game is one of the cruelest I know of in terms of punishing players for being new, stupid, bad, antisocial and reckless.

You should do Kings Quest I-VIII!!! GOGOGO

I remember having to learn how to read just to play this game when I was a kid. I was so jealous of my brothers because they could play cool games like this on the computer. Now any idiot can play.

Show the wow kiddies how old school MMO's were pure sadistic fun.
Better yet show them how a raid of 80 people had to break into the plane of Hate, and when someone couldn't run the right path, it wiped the raid, and you had to "rebreak" Hate. That was when raids lasted all weekend. Today's short attention span kiddos couldn't handle that...
you should review Darkfall online

I totally got wrapped up in EQ1. I could NEVER touch it again now but its hilarious to see you floundering around in that old *** game. Especially the "progression" realms where it was all about grinding and they didnt tell you **** about what to do or where to go lol.

As far as reviewing older classic games once a month or so I think it would be a great edition to the BFF report.

supgurlfroglegs = priceless

keep up the show man, it's awesome!

I never played EQ, but I DEFINITELY see the huge appeal to actually having to put some effort into a game in order to play and progress in it.

The reason most games are horrible now is that they all just hand you everything and nerf it down the difficulty/learning curve so incompetents can easily win. This consequently gives the player no sense of satisfaction and accomplishment because they didn't actually do anything!

I wish more new games actually required you to think like this one. Just my opinion.

Oh yea, and GREAT JOB MIKE!! Do more old school stuff!!
