"And they wouldnt die. Nobody was exploding".
Ignorance is a bliss. Enjoy this low level PvP while it lasts, Mike. At tier 10 you'll get exploded every second.
That investigation lead to some small town newspaper gave me good laugh

Mike B, have you checked out AirMech for review? https://www.carbongames.com/

It's a micro-transaction-based F2P, lobby-based, scifi-themed MOBA type of game. Your hero is the AirMech. Since you love Dungeon Defenders so much, you might like this game too.
you missed instances

I agree that the people who will enjoy this game the most will be those who can get into the story. I thought it was a great story and I am not even into that sort of story. SWTOR tells a story very very well but TSW tells a better story, if that makes sense.

One thing that you didn't cover at all though were the instances. There is an instance for each major zone. 5 leveling zones and 3 endgame zones. the 5 level instance can also be done at max level or expert mode like the final 3. Also the first 5 can be done in nightmare mode which isn't simply harder but the bosses have new mechanics so they are very significantly hard to pull off. your group not only needs to be skilled and geared but you also have to strategically plan how people will be spec'd out and what they will do in the fight. It works well for a raid quality endgame even if they are still only 5 man.

Also starting even with the first instances. They are very challenging and fun. the bosses have interesting mechanics. It isn't instance after instance of tank and spank. Most of the bosses will make you think some and have to learn. The instances I think, are top notch. I really enjoyed them a lot.

There's plenty of missions where you aren't given a specific waypoint to things and you have to figure these out on your own. Typically, these are the main story missions and all the investigation missions. These are the backbone of the game. The other types of missions, Action, Sabotage and the side missions will usually give you waypoints (but not always, especially with sabotage) mainly because there are a LOT of them. They are the main mission types in the game and that's how you progress your character. If you had to take half an hour or more for each mission because you're trying to figure it all out on your own, it will take you ages to get anywhere and progress.

But as you said, there is an addon you can get from SecretUI.com that will disable waypoints so you can be 100% unspoiled and try to be all Sherlock Holmes and figure it out on your own, but I would view these the same way I see the Ironman challenges in WoW where you try to level to max without using weapons and armor and grouping, etc. It's an accomplishment, but it shouldn't be the main way to play. Trust me, once you start getting into the middle of the storyline missions, you'll find plenty of challenge in just deciphering what you're supposed to do next, let alone where to go.

Overall, the main driving force in why I find TSW so much fun is the plot. The story in this game is beyond phenomenal and I'm hard pressed to even think of another game where the plot was so engrossing. The combat is nothing revolutionary, the skill/ability system is done EXTREMELY well, but again, it's not something that hasn't been done before, it's just done better than most. I personally found PvP pretty lackluster myself but to be fair, I haven't done much of it and the game is admittedly PvE focused. I see potential with the PvP, though, especially since you have 3 competing factions.

On a whole, I think your review of the game is pretty close to what I would call accurate and would highly recommend the game to anybody who's looking for an MMO that's different from the standard buffet that's already out there and especially to anybody who's interested in the plot material, namely Lovecraftian, fantasy, horror, occult, ancient mythology type things. There's a lot to nerd out on.

Also, just an FYI, there is an in-game web browser so you don't have to alt tab all the time. It's bound to "B" by default. It's some open source browser based on Chrome called "Chromium." It isn't a fully featured browser, but it gets the job done when you need to look stuff up to solve mission riddles.

I found kinda funny and disappointing that Secret World is coming with AVR BOSSMODS alike which has banned on WoW at Wrath of the Lich King patch.

The reason it was banned in WoW was because it made the encounters so easy, the reason its necessary in TSW is because the encounters are so very very hard in comparison. The very first instance in TSW (doable the first hour of playing the game if your skilled) has bosses with tougher to dodge mechanics than any of the first 3 floors in Icecrown Citadel. Some of the later instances has you dodging 3 different types of AE at the same time, while healing/dpsing. Without the telegraphing you would be so very dead in most of the bossfights.

But on a more serious note, BECAUSE the abilities are telegraphed it puts you in direct control of your character during the fight, if you die its because YOU failed, not because you couldn't tell where that AE was about to hit. The instances in TSW feel as epic, or more-so, than raiding in WoW/Rift.

The first boss in Facility for instance places large persistent AE zones (soft enrage), does multiple random AEs (falling debris) and does a column dash (charge) that you get 3-4 seconds to get out of. Which may sound like long (and I suppose it is in some cases) but when your avoiding all 3 at once things get more fun. I distinctly remember a case where I had to back away from a zone being placed, tried to heal the tank running out of the zone, had to active dodge out of falling debris, restarted the heal and then had to run out of the charge, without entering any of the previous mentioned areas.

You're saying you would prefer it if the MMO was a more challenging single-player game by removing waypoints? The big reasons funcom is tanking and lost their CEO at release is due to how little MMO there is to this game.

Funcom make their quarterly reports public, each of their MMOs are earning them money and the company is doing fine. And their CEO wasn't lost, he stepped down to a "new and freer role in the company".

The stocks dropped since the CEO stepped down and decided to liquidize 20% of his stocks into money. He still kept 80% and is still working at funcom so saying funcom is "tanking" and lost their CEO is kind of an exaggeration.
