BFF Report - Ep 105 - Legend of Grimrock
Legend of Grimrock is bringing back the funk with it's true-to-origin dungeon crawler design. For all the fans of Might and Magic, Eye of the Beholder and that one person who played Scarab of Ra, this game might be the throwback you were looking for.

Loving Grimrock. At times it makes me feel smart and other times I feel like the dumbest person alive.. sigh. But still well worth the money and time. Was having a weird system crash after having it on for a few minutes, but it's running fine now that I have vsync enabled and cleaned up my fans. Makes me think it may be time to get a new vid card though considering I was having same problem with Diablo 3 beta until I lower the frame rate alot. But otherwise awesome fun game. Except I prefer torch light over the mage light, feel like I can see better with torches. *shrug* But havig mage light leaves my mage with a free hand to equip a spear and melee when he runs out of mana. :)

As a side note Mike have you ever done a BFF on Crime Craft? I tried it back when it was in beta and after an hour uninstalled it. Just last night though I reinstalled it because of Steam. (Yes I am a sucker for free hats.) And I gotta say I enjoyed myself. Was planing on going to bed, but stayed up 7 hours playing. It's obviously not in APB's league graphics wise or customization wise, and all fighting is done in match making; but I liked the fact that I didn't just have to pvp. They had several different match types to kill other people or kill bots and the crafting looks neat.

Anywho thanks for doing all the stuff you do Mike. It is appreciated. :)

You don't really need to rest that often if you fight like you would in pvp. GET THAT MOVEMENT OOUUNN!
If you dance around the monsters a little and control your and their movement you take little to no damage and maybe get a few backstabs in while you're at it.
Or just lure them into traps where possible if you're lazy, not sure if you get exp that way though.

Also: Torches, you don't need them. There's actually a light spell you can get very early on, effectively replacing it.
I still carry a torch around on my caster a lot of times though, can be useful to use on pressure plates when I don't want to waste any of my precious rocks.
And it's not like he needs his second hand anyhow...I hope.

I'm glad you covered the game, I personally love it so far, especially the puzzles. Sometimes they're so simple that you spend an hour looking for hidden switches only to realize all you gotta do is take a torch from the wall. :x
The scattered notes and dreams kind of telling the story are also a nice touch. Love that retro.
I'm really hoping there's a lot of great user-made content to come and of course expansions by the developer themselves.

LoG love

Great report MikeB! I loved this game. I've already played through LoG once now and am working on a second play through. I still have yet to solve all the puzzles and find all the secrets in the game and that's one thing that is so great about this game. There's replay value! Which I never expected out of it. I totally get what you mean by things freaking you out too. The first time the whole dungeon shook I was like what the hell is going on and just stood there looking around waiting for something to burst out of the wall or for the dungeon to collapse. I can't wait for the dungeon editor and player creations to start popping out. I think there is a lot of potential for this type of a game now since they executed it so well.
Love the rise of old school gameplay

It is a great time to be an old school PC game lover. With games like this and the upcoming releases of Wasteland 2, Shadowrun Returns, we see that old school game mechanics are not as dead as people think.

I Love the look and feel of this game. I want to own it very much - can't wait to get in there and do some old school dungeon delving. I hope it does very well.
Love this game!

I'm probably advancing through this game the slowest of anyone on the planet. I love playing oldschool mode and mapping out levels with pencil and paper, studying walls for secrets and getting the crap scared out of me by mobs.

A most excellent job Almost Human!
