So just why IS everyone so hype for a new Sonic game?

Super Bunnyhop's latest video explores the fan-gone-pro talent behind the upcoming Sonic Mania.

Sonic games tend to disappoint these days, but the upcoming Sonic Mania has a lot of traditionally skeptical fans sitting up and paying attention.

Why is that? It has to do with the people attached to the project, including Christian "The Taxman" Whitehead and Simon "Stealth" Thomley, two developers who have come out of the Sonic romhack and fan game community. These two have a proven track record of not only remastering the original games but also of designing their own levels which match the tone, style, and (most critically) speed of Sonic's best-remembered titles.

In the above video, Super Bunnyhop's George Weidman lays out just what makes Sonic Mania an exciting project, and exactly what Whitehead, Thomley, and PagodaWest Games are bringing to the table. It's an excellent capsule summary not only of why many past Sonic games haven't worked, and why this one very well might.
