Living in the world of SUPERHOT must suck if you're not the guy with time powers

April 7, 2016 by Kris Ligman

A new parody from popular Youtube entertainment channel Rocket Jump shows what life would be like in a universe where 'time only moves when you move.'

I always have this weird hipster reaction to SUPERHOT, not because I played the prototype when it first appeared (I haven't), but because I have fond memories of playing Time4Cat, the little flash-based game which inspired its characteristic mechanic. I even showed it in a graduate school seminar once and blew a few minds. (Bringing in weird indie games was basically how I got through my entire degree program.)

Anyway, as a little browser game Time4Cat isn't for everyone, and SUPERHOT shows us what happens when you take that time/movement mechanic and really ramp it up to something extreme. And, as the above video from Rocket Jump reveals, life kind of blows for everyone else when one jerk's actions control the flow of time and space.

Incidentally, writing this up reminded me of my favorite Rocket Jump short, which also features mind control and some other beloved tropes of the action thriller genre: "Mexican Standoff." Starring Key & Peele, no less!
