SOMA, Darkest Dungeon, and more on discount in Steam Halloween sale
Halloween is the best holiday, and anyone who doesn't think so obviously does not have an excellent villain laugh to mete out on demand. (Seriously, it's my best feature.) So what better way to celebrate a spooky, damp weekend than with some discounted horror games?
Steam's Halloween sale runs from today to November 1st and showcases a mix of classics like Dead Space, BioShock, and Amnesia: The Dark Descent to smaller, indie horrors like Fran Bow, Viscera Cleanup Detail, and the latest Five Nights at Freddy's installment.
My personal recommendations are Night School's Oxenfree, PlayDead's Inside, and especially Frictional's SOMA, a deep sea horror about post-humanism. You can even play it with the developer-endorsed Wuss Mode and enjoy it for the story alone, it's such a rich experience.
There are a shitload of horror films on Steam these days as well, and most of them are discounted as part of the sale. So if you're not up for a game, might I suggest shotgunning the Saw series? It's a tragic tale of a doddering old man with the philosophical gravitas of a 14-year-old and implausibly unrestricted access to razorwire and pendulums. One way or another, you're going to have a great evening.
So turn the lights down and curl up with your favorite black kitty, it's the most wonderful time of the year.
