Gwent's 'Kill the Servers' stress test beta is live

Come play a hand with Geralt.

As it ramps up toward release, CD Projekt Red is holding a series of beta tests for its The Witcher spin-off card game, Gwent. Today marks the first of two scheduled server stress tests, appropriately named 'Kill the Servers.'

The goal of the stress test is for CD Projekt Red to get a good grasp of how Gwent will handle large numbers of players all hitting the site at once. Those who signed up for closed alpha and beta testing are eligible, and you can still do so here, if you're curious. Beta keys are available on a first come, first served basis and distribution times will be announced over Gwent's Facebook and Twitter accounts.

You may not get a key in time for today's stress test, which is to run for four hours (from 8am to 12pm Pacific time) but there will be a second test this coming Tuesday (11am to 3pm Pacific), meaning plenty of server-slaying time for everyone.

Gwent began as a minigame inside CD Projekt Red's videogame adaptations of Andrzej Sapkowski's dark fantasy The Witcher series. Players loved it, so following the studio's conclusion of its Witcher adaptations, it announced a new standalone version. Our editor-in-chief Laura got to take it for a spin herself a while back and quite liked it, if you're curious in reading more about it.
